SMF Version: SMF 1.0.7
Hi
I am unable to find in the SMF control panel where to set the expiration time for pending activation user requests. The problem is my server has over 20 un-activated user requests per day and today I had to spend about 2 hours cleaning 120 pages of pending users in the "registration management" panel of SMF. I suposed SMF automatically removes such unactivated user requests after some time (say 2 days ?). But it doesnt seem so. Can someone point me to a mod (searched but didnt found one) to do that ?
BTW, the big problem is that all those users are taking up "username namespace", for a forum where the admin doesnt have time to remove such requests (like me) this can turn out in a nasty DOS (denial of service) of the username namespace.
Thanks for any sugestions!
There is no time limit that relates to pending approvals. I would suggest that you enable immediate registration or registration that requires confirmation from users who register at your forum. This would certainly prevent your inbox being full of requests!
:)
Thanks for your very fast answer. Sorry that I wasnt clear enough, I do have registration method that just requires users to activate it from the activation email. Sadly there are many who don't do it (probably spam bots and such). Enabling instant registration whould make the problem worse as not only they will eat username namespace but will also be able to post and such (the spam bots I mean). I guess I have to go to that webpage from time to time, never realised about it (having the forums since a year now so the requests gathered... :)).
More thinking about the instant sign up proposal... hmm if I can be sure that SMF is hard to register on with spam bots (like requiring recognition of images or something like that) maybe I'll do it, at least until I get many spam bots posting :) I think I noticed some mod doing that in the mods section, going to investigate...
