Otsikko: Uploading SMF to FTP directory problems
Kirjoitti: Idioteque - toukokuu 07, 2006, 07:17:36 IP
SMF Version: SMF 1.0.7
And perhaps (aka most likely) this is more Idioteque error, but let me break it down:
SMF 1.0.7, hosted on godaddy.com:

-I successfully upload the 1.0.7 files to a newly created directory (i.e. "forum" or even just my main) using the built-in FTP client.

However,

-Entering the URL ...com/forum/install.php only brings me to a 404 and haven't been able to install

Any ideas what I may be doing wrong either with SMF or uploading?

are you sure the structure is intact? IE are your you didnt accidentally upload the unzipped smf folder instead of whats in it? That would make it /forum/nameofzipfile/install.php

Hi Reaper,

I extracted the entire contents of the 1_0_7 install.zip to a new folder (i.e. in this case, "forum").  I double-checked your point, though, thanks!  I'm not above a bit of dimentia here and there, hah!  And the files I uploaded match and/or equate to the same number contained in the .zip download.

I'm at a loss.  Uploading all my other pages, graphics, etc. hasn't been a problem.  I set up the "forum" directory the same as my "web stats" directory, which works.

Any other ideas?

Verify the directory structure is correct.  Also remember that capitalization does matter.  Index.php is not the same as index.php (except on Windows hosted sites.)

Upon rechecking the directory structure, all appears peachy.

For some reason, I just can't get the install.php to execute.  On the other hand, entering a URL such as ...com/forum/agreement.txt (aka another file within the same directory from the 1.0.7 download) opens the file right up.

GoDaddy servers are supposed to be compatible with .php, or am I barking up the wrong tree.

EDIT:  My hosting plan is through a Windows server that will not run .asp, that's all.  I'd need to upgrade to get .php support.

Thanks for all your help guys!
