Providing i can get permission from the designer, how easy would it be to get SMF to look like my site as it is now in terms of colours at all, which is an IPB, which i am thinking about changing to SMF

It doesn't take much time if you use SMF 1.1 RC2 version. Its default theme can be modified to look like this one.

HarzeM is absolutely right, using SMF 1.1RC2 a default variation could mimic that look pretty closely with little difficulty. You might also like to look into using TinyPortal as well as that will give you a portal similar to the IPB one you are using now.
