As you can see in the image, I want to add a home page icon/image that a user can click on to get back to the main site page, but what file to I edit in order to do so?

You edit index.template.php and add the image after the user information. The coding you use to add the graphic will depend on how the theme has coded the header. Getting it after the user info would prob. be the easiest, prob. just a new td, adjusting the percentage of the user info cell. Getting it in the second position would be more work.
