SMF Version: SMF 1.0.7
Hello - I have uploaded SMF and it is in my FTP space. When I click on the install.php file, it opens up to what looks like all the text and script. Why am I unable to get to the installer?
If it helps, earlier my machine kept recognizing the .php file as a Microscoft PictureIt! file. I did get the installer then, but of course it only opened up the PictureIt software. I uninstalled the PictureIt! software and this conflict appears to be removed.
Looking forward to some help.
Thanks!
That means that your host doesn't support PHP.

You have to install a webserver, php and mysql. If you're a beginner I'd recommend WAMP Server (http://www.wampserver.com/en/).
I am using GoDaddy Linux, and it indicates it supports PHP. I also have the ability to create up to 10 databases in mySQL. I did create one database, just in case there needed to be one. Is there something I need to do to get the install file recognized by PHP and SQL?
Thanks again...
Go to the file on your server, don't open it on your home computer.
Well that is a problem. I am hosting my site with GoDaddy - so I don't own (or even know) exactly where the server is. Am I unable to use SMF if I am not hosting it my own hardware?

Go to the file on your internet. So like http://www.yoursite.com/smf/install.php.
I think that is what I have been trying. I have been going to the address for the install.php file on the ftp site for my domain. Your message says to go to the http site - I am trying that, but not having much success at the moment.

Don't go to the file on FTP, go to the URL of the file.
can you write your adress here?
I am getting "Page Not Found", even though I can clearly see the file and folders in my FTP space. I uploaded this today. Do you think there is some waiting period while GoDaddy makes this live? In other words, maybe I can't access the http url right away and have to wait?
Couldn't posting the domain open me to a security problem at this point?
Bueller........anyone........
Did you upload the files to the public_html dir?
Please do not bump topics in such a short amount of time.
I don't think so. I don't have a file by that name in the FTP space - but I am quite sure it is possible I don't know what I am looking at.
My apologies. I actually don't know what you mean by bumping topics in a short amount of time. I am feeling pretty blonde at the moment. If you can clarify, I will comply. Everyone has been really helpful so far.
Thanks.
Ok, bumping is posting for a topic to remind people to help you. You should wait for some time (usually more than 24 hours) if no replies were posted.
You should access your file at http://www.youraddress.com/forum/install.php
I've written the folder "forum" here, but this may be different at you. But it is never "public_html". And it is case sensitive, I mean "Install.php" is different than "install.php"
Can you please PM me an account with FTP access?
