If you didn't have any mods or hacks applied to SMF, you can just download 1.0.7 from our downloads section, then extract the files to your local computer.  Edit Settings.php and enter in your database information.  Upload all of the files and you should be good to go.

If you have mods/hacks applied, the process will be a little more complicated because you'll have to apply your mods/hacks before you upload.

we had a few mods installed (and themes)

I have a backup.sql file, is there a way of uploading this to work with a fresh install of RC2?

Thanks

If you just want to upgrade, and your database is still intact, you can download the upgrade (not update) package, extract the files to your local pc, then upload to your website and run the upgrade script.

You may run into some problems because you have mods installed.  Not much you can do about that since your forum is hosed right now, but we can fix any mod related upgrade problems later.  At the least, you should use phpMyAdmin to edit the settings table and switch everyone to the default theme.  Change theme_default to 1 and theme_guests to 1.  Once you do that, back up your database (or at least your smf tables) and then proceed with the upgrade.

Without a current Settings.php file you may run into problems.  Edit the Settings.php file and enter in your database information.

Okay, uploaded everything... copied Settings.php and Settings_bak.php

Started installing... get the error

UPDATE smf_log_boards
SET ID_MSG = IF(logTime BETWEEN 1146584037 AND 1146586536, 2000, IF(logTime <= 1146597975, 2001, (goes on for a while...) IF(logTime <= 1147301324, 2500, 0)))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))
WHERE logTime BETWEEN 1146584037 AND 1147301325
AND ID_MSG = 0;

Thread stack overrun: 118800 bytes used of a 126976 byte stack, and 8192 bytes needed. Use 'mysqld -O thread_stack=#' to specify a bigger stack.

what can i do to solve this?

Thanks

Please don't change the topic or the original post once the problem is solved.  It renders the entire thread useless.  I changed the topic back, but please edit your original post and restore what you removed.
