I found a very old topic regarding this, but didn't want to resurrect it... I have searched the forum pretty thoroughly, but since the search has decided not to work for a while, I am posting about it.
I can't find a way to limit file size for avatars, just dimensions... is this still unavailable? Is it planned for any future version (or perhaps in the new release candidates)?
Turning off avatar uploading isn't a solution... so I figured I'd see if I'm just missing this and it's been done.
Thanks

Nothing, huh? :)
what version of smf do you use
Is there a way to force members at registration to be forced to select an avatar?
I have several forums www.lekeeperworld.com and 3 others and would like everyone to have an avatar .
Thanks for any responses

1.0.7
Would it be available if I changed to the release candidate?
sorry i cant seem to find away to limit he file size just the dimensions
Neither 1.0.7 or 1.1RC2 lets you set a max filesize, only the dimensions. If you are worried about large animated gif files, set it to convert to png files - the extra frames will then be lost. ;)

[edited] Unfortunately, this apparently only works for avatars that need to be resized. Unless I'm missing something, this will not convert avatars within the specified size constraints to PNG -- which seems to be the case, as I have had this enabled on all my boards, and the animated gif problem persists.
I don't suppose anyone knows if this is a feature that's planned for any future release? It seems pretty strange that it doesn't already exist, especially given the dimension limits.
OK... so... are there just not any devs reading this, or is it just being ignored? Does anyone know if this is going to be implemented at some point?
I've switched four sites that I either run or help run to SMF from phpBB since May... one of the only good things about that software was that the very quick support in their forum. I certainly don't expect to wait less than five minutes for an answer, but this isn't a difficult question, and I've been asking it for... over a month now?
at this moment everything in rc2 is going to be in the stable when released so at this time the next stable release wont have it in it, but maybe you should request it here (http://www.simplemachines.org/community/index.php?board=3.0) did you not think of doing that :)
No, I didn't; I was too busy tring to figure out the information you just gave me, so thanks, I will go ahead and post that as a suggestion. ;)
