I think CAPTCHA (wiki (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Captcha)) is the only thing SMF is in need of. We have problems with bots at the site I help run and phpBB has included CAPTCHA to combat this... which has been a big help. If it was just at the registration page, that would be great. We don't use guest posting, but I guess it would be worth including there like the existing SMF mod has (link (http://mods.simplemachines.org/index.php?mod=277)).
PS: I run a largish website and we've been on phpbb since we started and I've used it personally for any project I do. The problem is that while it gets more secure with releases, we don't get many new features and there's always the modding and I'm tired of the template system. SMF has all the things we want and it's clean and fast. :) I would really like to use it, but to decrease complication from mods, I'm kind of on a no mods stance to improve the admin atmosphere for the other admins. I would really like to see this in the default SMF package.
PPS: I tried using the search feature, but it was disabled because of load. Sorry if this has been posted already.
Currently there is a mod (http://mods.simplemachines.org/index.php?mod=277). This will be in the next release of 1.1 though (either RC3 or final).
Ah, thanks. Love the software. :)
This is indeed in RC3 when it is released.

Could the developers release the captcha part as a special update, please? The spammers are getting rediculous and I seem to be unable to install the mod.... gives me an error and I'd rather not do all the changes by hand....
