I'm unable to upload any image as my avatar:
An Error Has Occurred!
The attachments upload directory is not writable. Your attachment or avatar cannot be saved.
I just made sure that the attachment folders has read, write, and execute abilities for owner, group, and world. Is that not right?
Can anyone help?
Did you also make the avatar folder writable?
You said the attachments folder, but the avatars have their own folder.

Yes it is writable as well, but I still get:

somewhere in the admin area you have the ability to enable or disable avatars,
be sure its enabled, also the size of the file etc..
