To start off I would like to send out a thank you and a note of appreciation to the designers and support people of SMF. After a long research, I find that SMF is highly recognized by many as a power house of software.
Ok so enough sucking up, but its all true.
I installed the forum and everything is fine. I am not in maintenance mode or anything. But when I log out, it takes forever and then when I try and go back to the main forum index page, it takes forver and then says (cannot find server)
I tried it in another borwser and still the same thing.
So I over write the files and re-upload the install file and it lets me back in.
Any idea what I am doing wrong?
I am going to continue to research this.
"Cannot find server" is a generic Internet Explorer error message. In this case it sounds like it timed out when trying to connect. I'm not sure why it would be taking forever to load pages. Can you give us a link to your forum and a link to phpinfo? (What is phpinfo.php? (http://www.simplemachines.org/community/index.php?topic=18250.0))

Well it is still doing it. I went back in, deleted everything and started from scratch.
Every thing was fine until I went to logout. It took forever and it said cannot find server. So then i went to try and get back to the main forum page and it won't pull up.
I hope that i didn 't mess something up
Is there a way that I can turn on errors, so it will tell me why it won't load properly?
Ok so I am probably driving you nuts by now.
So here is a recap
When I install the smf forum it uploads and starts jsut fine. I can do whatever to the boards. If I leave I am fine. I can come back and still be logged in.
If I try and use the logout button is say something like
logout:sesc= and some long number and lettered combination. Now I do not know if this is normal, but I thought that I would through it in.
Now that is just what it says at the bottom of my server page.
So I am lost. I have reinstalled it 8 times. I tried different ftp clients and chmod it 777
Like I said if I do not logout I can come back where I left off.
But when I try and logout it takes it forever to load and then says that it cannot find server.
And then when you try and go back to the page, it says the same thing. It is not in maintenance mode, and I am sure that everything uploaded.
i have contacted my host and they said that they wont help me becuase its thiird party software. I just wanted to see if my server was down or anything.
But everything is fine.
I hope I can end up using this software, I think its really good stuff
Ok so I tried to install the version smf 1.07 and I can logout just fine in admin. But I have tried to install the 1.1 rc2, and no luck. Any ideas?

So I downloaded the 1.07 version, and then upgraded to rc2, it said thank you, everything was successful. I go to log in, it takes forever and says that the page cannot be displayed, like it has some problems, even though it just worked.
Maye I need a better host or something

Have you tried using Firefox at all? While I doubt this is an IE-specific issue, Firefox will at least give you a more useful error message if it times out or can't be accessed.
I did try it in firefox. It did the same thing. It timed out and went blank.
I give up for now.

But what I am wondering is since the version smf 1.07 works, can I use it for a long while to come? Or is it like outdated?
I worry about security issues. The reason I left phpbb is for the security and features. I know that rc2 is probably more feature rich, but since the 1.07 works I would like to roll with it.
But I have looked for themes and only see like 1.06 and rc2 versions. Will the 1.06 work on the 1.07?
