Hi gang,
just wondering how common and accepted it is to pay for themes? What's a going rate? I'm working on a site for a fantasy miniatures wargame that I play, and I don't mind paying for a theme that fits for me.
Thanks for your comments and information,

I would check the Themes Site (http://themes.simplemachines.org/) first to make sure something you could use is there or not.
Maybe post the in the Help Wanted ( Not for Support ) Board
Such posts are common there
And i'll help you
The cost depends on the Complexity of your theme.

Thanks for the link, but I checked there already and didn't see anything that quite fit for me. I'll keep an eye on it, though. You never know what will get posted. :)

A standart theme maker can create a theme for 10 or 15 $ per licence. Anyone can give that money and get the theme. But unique price may vary. If you want to have a theme created for you, and never used by someone else, the cost may go up to around 50 or 60 $
And, no, paying for a theme is not a strange thing. If you want a custom theme, and don't have the ability to create one, you just pay someone to make it for you ;)

Yeah
thats what i wanted to say and thats what i do and i'll do.
There aren't that many that do custom themes..but check out the Help available board - there are a few announcing there. For pre-made themes with a prize its even less...SMF is still a "young" script which might explain the lack of it.
But of course free themes are beginning to pick up the pace. :)
Dunno where to post this, forgive me.
I dont know if its an error of somesort but earlier I recently purcahsed a them from the themeshop at Tinyportal.net but as soon as I logged in to download the them I paid for, this is the error I get
Internal Server Error
The server encountered an internal error or misconfiguration and was unable to complete your request.
Please contact the server administrator,
[email protected] and inform them of the time the error occurred, and anything you might have done that may have caused the error.
More information about this error may be available in the server error log.
Additionally, a 404 Not Found error was encountered while trying to use an ErrorDocument to handle the request.
Apache/1.3.36 Server at www.tinyportal.net Port 80
also at the introduction page with myself logged in, I get this,
Please try again. If you come back to this error screen, report the error to an administrator.
But using another browser I can view the site until I log in with my username. then those errors return.
Yes, its a server problem i am trying to work out with the host. In the meantime, send me an email and I will send you the files instead.
Sent, and thanks.

You know, I always wanted to say this to the developers and people in charge with the themes design, -if SMF gets to have some really awsome theme designs, and I do mean awesome, like the Dilber theme pack (the best in my opinion), it would be really great. SMF has very much potential! So let's make it even better! SMF needs some really stunning looks, like those cool skins designed by eXtremepixels, transverse style and others for vBulletin or IPB. I know that the current skins are ok, and I know that on the web it's not always about the looks of a website, but it is the aspect that creates a first impression about a website, so I really believe SMF would really be mush better if we'd get some really cool and sleek skins for it. It was my first type of forum software I ever played with! ;)

[Disclaimer]: I have no relation with LightSabre, neither I've just registered a new account to say that nor I've asked him to say it. :)
Well, there are many good themes already, and Dilbert is one of them. But if you feel that it is the ONLY one thats over average good, then I can't really help you.

You are welcome. I was just being honest. I know there are other nice themes as well, but if you want to know what I mean by really cool themes, look here:
www.extremepixels.com (http://www.extremepixels.com) , www.vbskinworks.com/forum/ (http://www.vbskinworks.com/forum/) and www.transversestyles.com (http://www.transversestyles.com)
If SMF would have such skins, a lot of people would turn to SMF. ;)
