SMF Version: SMF 1.0.7
I have tried and tried to get this to work. I get everything uploaded to the server, I change the CHMODs to 777, then I try to run install.php, and get a file not found error everytime.
If I start with ftp:// instead of http:// I get a little closer: it shows the background and some script, but there are lots of error messages. My server does have mySQL version 3.23.33 and pHp 4.4.1 installed.
I have uploaded it several times and checked that all of the files were uploaded.
Any suggestions?
Hi Marie,
If you like, feel free to send me a PM with your FTP login details and I'll take a look for you.
Cheers
Fizz
Thanks for the info Marie.
All sorted for you.
The problem was that you put the /forum/ directory at root level. I moved the directory in to htdocs folder where it should be and install.php is resolving perfectly now.

Fizz
thanks! You are tops in my book! (And thanks for the quick help!!)
You're welcome Marie. Good luck with your Forum :)
Sorry about not posting in the correct place the first time, but fizzy, could you take a look at my system as well, and try to help me?
Thanks,
Harold
We have the same error with install.php We did exactly as the "SM Install" says.
The same file structure.

Guys,
Feel free to drop me the same FTP details and I will have a quick look for you to help save time, but please remember that I also have my duties to perform here on SMF. But I certainly don't mind checking for you :)
Thanks for everyone who helped, I got it working!!! No frills yet, but I set up a poll, and started a message thread, I know it does'nt sound like much, but I am stoked!
Now if only I could figure out why my photos wont show up on my webpage layout since switching to a linux server...

Hi Harold,
When you say photo's, do you mean avatars? attachments to posts? forum images?
Please clarify or drop me a link to an example of the problem :)
Oh, it's not a smf problem, sorry. I figured it out that you have to re-upload images with ftp to make them visable to the web public. I'm talking simple html calls to images on the server, sorry for the confusion, I'm good to go for now, so thanks again and have a great day!
Harold
Not a problem Harold.
Good luck with your forum and site :)
im unable to connect u an see in pic blow
Spider, you need to ask your server host for that information.
Regards
Fizz
I also have the same error with install.php. I'm pretty certain I have uploaded all the files. I followed the instructions the best I could but it's just not working for me :sigh:
Fitzy I'm going to pm you my ftp details, I hope you don't mind. I'm in Australia so my time zone is way out with everyone else's as usual so I'm here when no-one else is.
Sevy
Hi Sevy,
Please go through and amend all of your CHMOD permissions.
From the image you attached of the install (thanks for that) it looks like all of your files need to be CHMOD'd
For full CHMOD instructions please look at http://docs.simplemachines.org/index.php?topic=5
Cheers
Fizzy
Thank you thank you Fizzy! :)
I'll do that and let you know how it goes.
Hey, I've set and reset those permissions but they keep reverting back to the "no execute" settings.
I'm using WS_FTP Home. Is there a setting on the ftp program that I need to check to save the permissions settings?
Hi Sevy,
Personally I use Smart_FTP.
If the files keep changing back then you might like to try a new FTP utility. Either that or you should be able to use your host CPanel/File Manager
For ftp, I used Filezilla, and it works great!!! I also switched from a windows server to a linux server, and that solved all my problems with php.
Thank you Fizzy and HRWatson68 for your help and advice :)
It turns out the Server didn't allow 777 file permissions. It wasn't my ftp client after all.
I'm now in the process of looking for a free web-host that will allow execute file permission and supports php. Does anyone know of a good free host that supports SMF and is easy to upload to?
Sevy
Hi Sevy,
Have a look through Hosts and Hosting (http://www.simplemachines.org/community/index.php?board=4.0) section.
There may be some free hosts listed in there :)
Thanks Fizzy :)
