Otsikko: Using optimized PNG for speed up

When making images for templates and styles, you can use PNG over static GIF to gain some speed. PNG is opensource and can make images very small if used correctly.

PNG images can be optimized with tools like PNGGauntlet (http://brh.numbera.com/software/pnggauntlet/), to crop the size between 5% to 30%, especially when using Photoshop (because of his bad support, the PNG generated files grow in size).

PNGGauntlet (http://brh.numbera.com/software/pnggauntlet/) can be used to convert GIF images and take 25% of the filesize almost all the time!

You may need to edit some code to use these images, but if you're making a new template, it is worth it!

All browsers support the 8 bit transparency png, IE will support the alpha layer PNG from this fall on with its Seven release.
