Otsikko: Search by hostname
Kirjoitti: leoedin - heinäkuu 08, 2006, 02:40:32 IP
On my forum (350 members in the last month, and growing - we replaced an old forum that got deleted off proboards, so are known better than most forum's) we also run an IRC channel.

Great! Except that the people on the IRC channel are under no obligation to use their forum usernames, and the only information we can gain from IRC is their hostname.

SMF displays the users hostname to admins...so no problems!

except that you can only search by IP address in the member search option. Would it be possible to search by hostname, either through a mod (I searched and couldn't find anything) or as a default setting. Its not vitally important (we can always go through the people we think it is).

Anyway, another possible thing would be to know how hostnames are stored in the SQL DB, so I could make another script that ran independantly of SMF that searched for a particular hostname within the SQL database and found a username to go with that.

Thanks in advance

Leo

Hostnames aren't saved in the database but are worked out when they need to be displayed.

Thanks

Surely IP's will do that as well, since an IP is variable...or do IP's get saved?

anyway...Is there any way you could search by hostname then?

IP's are saved, when a hostname is required, it's looked up from the ip address so to do a search you would have to resolve all the ips then do it, which would be time consuming, especially on ip's that have no hostname.
