Some new features have been proposed: http://www.simplemachines.org/community/index.php?topic=13766.0

  • Allow / disallow members to modify their user name
Adding an option in the permissions or in the modsettings to allow/disallow certain membergroups to modify their name shown in the topics.
  • User accounts' deletion and forum settings modifications logged in the moderation log
Logging user deletion, either by an administrator or by the user itself (or maybe by someone else), to the moderation log.  Logging the forum settings' modifications could be utile for forums with more than one administrator.  Or maybe creating an admin log, separated from the moderation log, with these information, could be utile.
  • Allowing certain membergroups to access the forum when in maintenance mode
This could be utile, for example, to allow moderators to access the forum when it is in maintenance mode, to allow them to moderate their boards.
  • Making the new topic's notification not blocking the new reply's notification
Allowing the board to send a new reply's notification email even if a new subject's notification has already been sent.

I only reported the propositions that I find interesting and utile for SMF.  I did not mention the ones that could be done as mods (because mot a lot of people would use it, because it is only for esthetic, ...).  Thoses propositions were:

  • an integrated chat (already developped as a mod),
  • an integrated shoutbox (already developped as a mod),
  • redirection boards (already devolopped as a mod),
  • a space for partners' publicities,
  • allowing members to reorder the categories on the boardindex,
  • and allowing BBCodes tags in the membergroup's name.

don't take it too personally... they haven't really said much about my most recent suggestion either.

* Amacythe sulks away taking it very personally

Allowing certain membergroups to access the forum when in maintenance mode

would be a very good idea i think, because i often want to test some things i have chenged, with a normal account not my adminaccount but at the same time i don't want to open it again, because for example some permissions arn't already set right and so on.

Allow / disallow members to modify their user name
I haven't added this as a permission but a couple of weeks ago I added an option to enable/disable non-admins from editing their display name - so it's pretty much done.

User accounts' deletion and forum settings modifications logged in the moderation log
Added logging of account deletion in Beta 6. Not too keen on logging changing forum settings as only admins can do that - and you should really trust your admins :)

I can see the justification behind that. I don't think we want to add any more permissions for 1.0 though - not a bad idea IMHO.

Personally I'm not sure that is that important - why would you want to know there had been a reply if you haven't read the topic yet?

Sorry for not replying earlier but we're all very busy right now :)

Couldn't this introduce further problems, though? Perhaps it depends *why* the forum has been put into maintenance mode but, assuming it's for an upgrade or because something isn't working properly, surely you want as few folk as possible to be able to access it and carry out actions that can alter what's there?

Grudge

That is true. Maybe in the future if I ever get around to a moderation centre we could just have a "moderation mode" in which case only moderation actions can be carried out :)

I like the Moderation Mode idea, but maybe for a member permission, not a group.  For example, I'm setting up permissions for other groups and want to test things before turning off the maintenance mode, but I can't log in as anything but Admin.

Yeah, I imagine that, with the upcoming RC1...  Well, thanks for taking the time to answer :)

Yes, true, I didn't think about that.  The "Moderation mode" should be a better idea.
