SMF to attend O' Reilly's OSCON.

UPDATE: READ MORE ABOUT SMF @ OSCON

Simplemachines.org has some exciting news. This July 21-25 we'll be attending O' Reilly's OSCON in Portland, Oregon (USA). What makes this years all the more exciting is its scheduled to be three events in one.

What is OSCON?

OSCON is the Open Source Convention. Now in its tenth year, OSCON returns to the Oregon Convention Center in Portland, Oregon July 21-25, 2008, bringing together over 2500 experts, visionaries, and hackers in the trenches to explore all that open source has to offer. 2008 promises interesting developments in the Linux, Java, Web, and open source infrastructures. OSCON will have tracks for Linux, PHP, Perl, Python, Ruby, Java, Mobile, Databases, Desktop Applications, Web Applications, Administration, Security, People, Business, and Emerging Topics. Learn more at About OSCON . (http://en.oreilly.com/oscon2008/public/content/about)

Open Source Conference.  -This year promises to show off some of the best and fastest growing open source projects, just imagine a  convention center filled with developers, hackers, experts, IT managers. :D

Open Mobile Exchange -( OMX for short), it geared to get those involved in building out the open source mobile space, including platforms, standards, applications, hardware, integration, browsers, location, and services.

Ubuntu Live 2008- The Canonical team is set to show off a wide array of new products including the soon to be popular mobile version of Linux http://moblin.org/ http://www.ubuntu.com/products/mobile

This trifecta proves to be promising for SMF. We'll be packed with goodies, swag and we'll be running some SMF demos as well as giving some lectures demonstrating the new features of our 2.x version of SMF. If you are in the area, and are able to attend, drop by the booth and hang out with the team.

rickC, good and exciting to follow the SMF career, all around the web.
I would really like to read the incoming news about this event, something like the MOTM was this past winter.

We used to have an SMF shop, but we've moved away from selling items in order to focus on other core SMF functions IE, expos like this, new patches, 2.x, and providing support. If there's a demand for it, perhaps we could reevaluate and talk about bringing it back.

Unfortunately, we don't have the funds to hand them out online. :( But fear not, there's always chances to win them in contests.

Basie

This is very exciting news. But do you know what would be even more exciting?

Getting 2.0 out before we all die of old age.

Dragooon

Great news! I wish I could attend it too but I probably live a few thousand miles away from there :P

That really wasn't nice of you, The Devs are trying there best to make it as stable as possible, so it'll be ready once it is ready :).

HecKel

Everyone wants SMF 2.0 out, and I am a little tired to see ALWAYS the same type of comments about the 2.0 final version..., please, stop polluting topics with that kind of comments and see the Dev's blog.

About this topic, unfortunately I am not in USA (and I never was :P) but I am glad that SMF is growing and being noticed to that level, congratulations to the SMF team and to the Marketing team for their great work :)

SMF 7 is where it gets good. That has time travel. You can go back and post before the guy who flamed you. :P

I have split out the license discussion over to the Feedback and Discussion board. Go post in Licensing Issues (Was: Re: SMF to attend O' Reilly's OSCON) instead of pulling this off-topic.

Now, the next person that pulls this off-topic like that will get a one-week post ban from me. If you want to discuss tangential issues, there is a reason we have all the other boards.

Minor addition:
Sorry if the postban comment sounds harsh, I'm just tired of us having to lock every topic to stop people from pulling it into a tangent. It isn't a black/white thing, so if your on-topic comment about the post goes a bit away from the subject, it's fine. Obvious trolling or off-topic remarks might be acted on though.

Yeah, we hardly ever have awesome programming conventions in Aus! I would love to come, but unfortunately the pacific ocean is sort of in the way!  :'(

Not to be rude but what's the point of this really? It reminds me of the MotM trip which didn't shed much light into how SMF worked behind the scenes.

Gary

Actually, this is nothing like the MotM, that was a team-only deal, this is a public affair, where you can attend if you're in the area since it's a convention.

The first post states what we will be showcasing which includes 2.0 features, and other SMF related stuff.
