Anyone got any suggestions on where to get the source so i use the same template as the forum and everything just add in my own snipplet on a page like a "reccommend us" script i just want to make a button on the menu like "Recommend Us" and when the user click it takes them to a page that uses the forum template that i have a flash script

thanks for any info

Deprecated

Sure. I did just that for several of my mod packages. Just copy Something.php and Something.template.php and delete most of the insides. Then mod your index.php to add an action to use your custom page and you are good to go. With a bit more effort you can add a tab, or just forget the index.php mods and use my Custom Tab mod. Or copy the code from that. You can do that you know, open source and all that. :)

Look at my Rules or Contact mods for additional examples you can plunder. :)

The easiest way to do this would be to use either the Custom Action Mod (which can create its own buttons) or the Site Integration Mod along with the mod suggested by Deprecated. Those mods allow you to easily add your own custom code as an action within SMF, without worrying about creating source or template files. ;)

yeah i just added the custom action mod but my problem is the flash script iam using requires some coding to be added to the <head> section and i can figure out how to do it

Nathaniel

The html headers can be changed at the start of the 'template_html_above()' function in the '/themes/{themename}/index.template.php' template file. You should be able to add your own html code after the main clump the html header code in that function. To avoid loading the required flash header code for every SMF page, you should be able to use a condition in PHP, your code should look like the example below:

if ($context['current_action']=='flashaction')
echo 'Header Code';

Don't forget to replace the flashaction part, with the action that you want the header code to be shown for. I can help you to place the header if you post your 'index.template.php' file, as well as the header code that you need to add. ;)

index.template.php

<?php
// Version: 1.1.5; index

/* This template is, perhaps, the most important template in the theme. It
contains the main template layer that displays the header and footer of
the forum, namely with main_above and main_below. It also contains the
menu sub template, which appropriately displays the menu; the init sub
template, which is there to set the theme up; (init can be missing.) and
the linktree sub template, which sorts out the link tree.

The init sub template should load any data and set any hardcoded options.

The main_above sub template is what is shown above the main content, and
should contain anything that should be shown up there.

The main_below sub template, conversely, is shown after the main content.
It should probably contain the copyright statement and some other things.

The linktree sub template should display the link tree, using the data
in the $context['linktree'] variable.

The menu sub template should display all the relevant buttons the user
wants and or needs.

For more information on the templating system, please see the site at:
