BTW antechinus I am using one of your themes, ds natural on my testsite. Great work, one of the best themes I have ever seen  8)

I really think the installation difficulties encountered be some users should be looked into.  Perhaps it has something to do with some server setup that has trouble with the fckeditor as discussed earlier?

Quoteonly problem is that the system won't let me save anything in the HTML blocks...   I can not change the front page to my own, because the editor just erases my content when I click save.

Did you enter your code in  "Source-mode"?  ???

Strange all these reported problems?? I have yet to have a problem with an install of PortaMx. It installs through the package manager easily, and I can change the frontpage "and" save it as it should. I am no coding freak either. At 58 you look for easily manageable things believe me. So I cannot understand all this griping! Or is there something else behind it??
No there is nothing else behind it. Trin and I have nothing against Feline or anyone else here. In fact I had never heard of Feline before she suggested I try her portal.  We are simply interested in her portal and are reporting what has happened when we try to get it running. As I have stated I am very impressed with her product and would like to see it accessible.

I am quite happy to share any information on my server configurations (online or local) if it will help to sort this out.

You can thank Bikken and MaYday for that one. I had nothing to do with it. I'm support staff over at their place and have released a couple of themes based on Outline and Mystic Jade, but I haven't messed around with DS-Natural at all. It's a nice theme though.

I'm here long time (since SMF 1 RC1  ;) ). Earlier, I have help Bloc with the TinyPortal, the I wrote a Blog mod for SMF and now a Portal.

If you willing to give me a ftp and Armin account, I can look what's wrong.

K. At the moment the test site is a bit of a mess code-wise, because I was overwriting files to bring the installation back to vanilla but my satellite link kept dropping out last night. It's vulnerable to weather conditions so I gave up.

I'll get onto it this weekend and clean things up, as well as setting up an account for you. I'll also run phpinfo on my local and online server so the differences are easier to spot. It's probably something quite simple to fix once it's found and the information should be useful to others.

??? Like what? I was trawling for a portal that worked with 2.0 and ran across this one. When I uploaded it through the package manager, I got errors. I'm so glad that it works for you and some others, but it doesn't work for me. It's not even a simple issue of installation test errors that can be manually repaired, it tells you that all tests are successful, then you click "install" and when it redirects you... you have NO ACCESS forum side. Just an error page. What else could possibly be behind me reporting a problem that I have with this mod? Do you imagine that I'm a cyber spy for Bloc and have been sent to sabotage his competition? :D

I just need a portal, and simple portal isn't good enough. THIS one is. I've installed it on a local and it's perfect, runs great. I think you have an awesome modification here, feline. I'm of the opinion that if you want it to take off (and it by all rights should be the premier portal for SMF, imo) it has to be package manager friendly for all users. Now, ante and I have been chatting and working with the mod a bit, and we're sure this is a server setting issue. Imagine offering this mod with a simple list of server settings which will guarantee that every user can easily install this mod. You're golden.

Fel, for the moment here are the phpinfo.php readouts for my local and for my online server.

The local is just a standard 1.6.6 XAMPP installation running on XP Pro SP2 in an NTFS partition.
I haven't sorted files and accounts for the online test forum/server yet. I'll do that tonight (my time).

I've also asked Trin to get a readout on her server when she gets a chance. Cheers.

As I say in my PM ..
That's a generally problem of many web hostings .. the webserver runs with a other user and other rights as the ftp user, so SMF's packed manager can't modify the files and folder.

Hey Feline...    any idea about the problem I have with the editor not saving my changes for an HTML block?

I try to change the front page HTML block, (not using any code, just text) it writes into the fckeditor box, but when I click save, the text is not saved.

Thank you Feline. It seems to be working perfectly now. As I thought it was a server configuration issue. This is the solution:

QuoteI found your problem ...

Your webserver run under a user that is NOT the same as the folder and file user (cofexm). The package manager can't modify any file. A copy is created before the change applied (filename with a tilde ~) but no change is applied.
Also I see that your root is not writable (ACP, package manager, file permission).

What  do you have to do?
Set your werserver user (apache I think) to the same as the ftp user (cofexm), and also set your root folder to 755.

This is a common problem on the many webhostings.

For now, I have installed PortaMx manually, so you can test that.

Fel

@Kindred: html blocks are fine on my copy. I know that doesn't help you but I thought I should mention it. IOW, the portal seems fine.

Great stuff, is there any chance for 1.xx version????

Why would you want a 1.1.x version when TP is available for 1.1.x? Come to think of it why would you want 1.1.x? I'll be changing over very shortly I think. I currently flogging beta 4 on a test site and so far it's great.

Boxer2

I want to stay on 1.xx until commes offical 2.0 version and i dont like TP, for me there is no problem but my admins dont to know how to work with TP and they are working on MKportal curently
