$10US via PayPal to the person who can fix this for me (make links and articles both display and work properly for all users who have been given the appropriate permissions...)

Should only be 20 mins work for the 'smarties'  8)
Easy fix by deafult only admin's have permissions to access those sections.

You can setup permissions. Under Admin -> Permissions you have to modify each group and add permissions for articles etc.

Not quite so easy...  That's already done - the permissions are set (see the attached image and then have a look at my site - http://www.besteikaiwa.com/forum/ - and try to find the articles button or try to link directly to the articles page the permissions in the image supposedly allow - http://www.besteikaiwa.com/forum/index.php?action=articles;cat=2

The same problem exists with links (which is a very similar plugin)

vbgamer45

That screenshot is for category level permissions which you can choose to enable or disable by default everyone has access to all categories.

You also need to setup global permissions inside SMF.

Which is found under SMF's Admin -> Permissions -> Modify each group

Hey VB (Great Aussie beer VB, btw, you wouldn't be a drunken Aussie gamer by any chance would you  ;D)

I owe you a beer at any rate... (a deal's a deal and I'm the one who couldn't figure out how to use the mod...)

I have an idea for 'alternative payment', though...  (I can become a paying customer and purchase Newletter Pro - which looks a way nifty application)

The guys who make the mods deserve to get paid where they can (one of my big problems with the Open Source community is the lack of gratitude I often see expressed - I really do value the fact that you spent your own time trying to help a noob  :))

Yeah gets kind of tough when you have so many mods that are large in themselves, other websites to work on, and then working fulltime.

Hey Mr. G,

Got a quick question, you wouldn't just happen to have a upgrade package for SMF Articles (version 1.0.1.3 to 1.0.1.4)like you did with EZ Portal
would ya. Because that would make life so much easier, sence I have so many mods installed that the only way I'll be able to do the upgrade is manualy and being a blind user it gets kind of tough sence the only way I can edit all these crazy php files is with note-pad, tried to use note-pad 2 but my screen reader will not work with it, e.g. will not read the line-numbers as well as several other things.

Well thanks for any help you can offer.

So, if a mod doesn't install properly, and I can't get help from your part of the forum,
I will come begging for YOUR help since you wrote it and know how it works
um, uh, well,
At least I would really, really hope you do!

QuoteAre you using the default theme? If not you will have to modify the index.template.php of the custom theme to include a link to the articles section such as

http://www.yourforum.com/index.php?action=articles

Hi,

Been reading back to try and find my answer - the above looked like it might be a place to start, but the link don't work no more...

(I'm trying out ezportal to allow users to switch between themes and am having trouble getting articles and links to work right - the 'most recent' still show through the ezblocks, but the full feature only lives on 'default')

I tried the 'manual install' instructions and modified everything that lived inside a 'theme' directory and left the others as-is, but wasn't getting this to work...

Any ideas folks?

vbgamer45...

I currently use this mod on an SMF 1.1.7 board.  Love the mod, btw.

Anyway...my question is this:  Is there any way to cut back on the number of "queries" it creates?

Right now, I have two categories...each having a number of sub categories.  When navigating to the Articles page, it creates 38 queries.  When going to a category, it creates 84 queries...depending on how many subcategories for a particular category.  The more categories/subcategories added...the greater the number of queries.  This may be of some concern...if it is to be used as a knowledge base...which is how I'm using it.

Is this issue being addressed?

vbgamer45

The main page that looks bad is
http://www.saviourpc.com/forums/index.php?action=articles;cat=26

And that is mostly caused by sub category totals features that counts subcategory totals. Which adds two queries to each category.

Well...

I've adjusted the Articles settings to remove counting the child categories, but the number of queries is still high...even though it removed 30+ queries.

Going back to that link...50+ queries...

vbgamer45

Yeah it could be optimized a little bit. I think I see one query I can remove from that page.

I had my wife uninstall version 1.0.1.3 and install 1.0.1.4 because 1.4 is newer and the Articles settings section told me to upgrade. :)
However, I now get this when I go into the settings: Your Version: 1.0.1.4 Latest Version: 1.0.1.3 Your article system version is not up to date!

Isn't that kind of bass ackwards?? Is that just an error or does it not know what it's talkin about??
Other than that, it seems to be working fine, so I'm going to leave it alone.

Thanks,
Flip

Is there any way of installing an additional articles mod, and calling it projects?

Thank you for any help and your time.

Dazza0101. :)

Oh, regarding the previous message about version number, I noticed the same thing on another one of your mods I have installed, I will check which one it is and post back. ;)

Awesome MOD but unfortunately it doesn't work for me. I am using SMF 1.1.7. Here's the link to me forum. www.theconfab.net/forums

When I install this MOD, I get the following message"

QuoteYour Version: 1.0.1.4 Latest Version: 1.0.1.3 Your article system version is not up to date!

How do I overcome this problem?

Thanks in advance.
