Manage Membergroups Permission by LHVWB

Overview:

This mod splits the "Manage and assign membergroups" permission into four separate permissions: "Manage membergroups", "Moderate membergroups", "Assign primary membergroups" and "Assign additional membergroups". This split of permissions allows you to customize your manage membergroup permissions system by having different membergroups/users that can edit membergroups in the 'Admin' section, moderate membergroups in the 'Moderate' section, and assign primary/additional membergroups to users in the 'Profile' section.

The settings for this mod are located in the admin panel under 'Members' -> 'Manage Permissions' -> 'Manage Membergroups Permission'. You can also set permissions for each membergroup when editing the 'General Permissions' for a membergroup, in the admin panel under 'Members' -> 'Manage Permissions' -> 'General Permissions' -> 'Modify' link next to each membergroup.

I am glad you like it Miles Marshall. This mod took me quite a while (several days of coding), because its fairly large, but I enjoyed making it, so I hope that others will enjoy using it as well. :D

Any chance this will be available for the stable version of SMF? O:)

Do you mean for SMF 1.1.7? No, I don't intend to make/port any more of my mods for SMF 1.1.x as SMF 2 is almost out of beta. This mod especially would annoying because it would need to be coded almost completely from scratch, due to the large number of changes in the admin/privileges sections between SMF 1.1.x and SMF 2.

Got the beta version and tried this out, liked the feature it added :)

Something that could be cool for future versions would be if you could make it so that certain membergroups could assign only one specific additional membergroup to others.

Meaning "semi-moderator-1" can only give others "membergroup-1" as membergroup.

Would be useful for forums where some parts are hidden from eachother. Have one person in charge of a board that gets to "invite" others to it.

Nathaniel

Yeah, that would the permission completely customizable. I will have a think about it, it would probably require rewriting a fair chunk of the mod, so I might not find the time to actually do it.

I was hoping for a 1.1.7 version myself, as I was concerned when I checked out the download for 2.0 and saw "As this is in early beta we do not suggest running SMF 2.0 Beta 4 Public on a production site."

I'm glad to hear SMF2 is almost out of beta, as I could really use this mod.

Jim R

I'm kind of short sighted on what this does.  I know in going from SMF 1.1.4 to 2.0 Beta 4, I'm going to lose the ability to Hide Board and Read Topic Permission permission mods.

I need to be able to restrict who can access some Boards, and in other cases, I want to be able to restrict who can access Topics.  The main one is restricting who can view Topics.

Can I do that with this mod?

Nathaniel

@Jim R,
No, this mod doesn't have those features. This mod allows you to customize permission that allows membergroups to change the membergroup of other users and administrate/change the membergroups, nothing more...

Will this mod be upgraded to be compatible with SMF 2 RC1?

When I get around to it, I will test this mod for SMF 2 RC1 and update it if required, it may already work with SMF 2 RC1, but I haven't tested it yet.

It doesn't, I tried. Get a few errors.

I have an error with this mod, well not an error, but a bug.

On our forum, we allow members to change display names, most of them are able to do it without a problem, but the people who are able to mask others encounter difficulty.

They change their display name, but since they are not an administrator the forum thinks they are trying to mask themselves as a mask that only admins can give, so it demasks them.

Any way around it?

Any chance of this mod being updated?

bros

yeah it isn't working on RC3 sadly enough. I like this mod.

Did anyone get to this to work on RC3?
"There is no god, and that's the simple truth. If every trace of any single religion were wiped out and nothing were passed on, it would never be created exactly that way again. There might be some other nonsense in its place, but not that exact nonsense. If all of science were wiped out, it would still be true and someone would find a way to figure it all out again."

Hi! I just upgraded to SMF 2.0 and installed this mod from fresh. Now, when I try to update a members additional groups I get this error:

The database value you're trying to insert does not exist: p_additional_groups

I have looked through every single file it updated and cannot for the life of me find this variable name anywhere!

I really like this mod and wish to use it, would be a shame to delete it!
