On that note, I want to include a phpBB theme (*evil grin*) but I think they'll get mad at me.

And, the note about servers... that's the biggest reason.  I mean, look at this - for months YaBB SE was being a leech on its host, costing money with no recompense.  People were LEAVING because they felt that there was a lack of paid, professional eeling support.

It just didn't work.

Now, look - we've got more donations in a week than we did in MONTHS before.  We're supporting them well and still ready to offer free support, free downloads.  I'm not sure this quite covers the server costs.... but at least it's closer.

Life isn't simple, but yet it can be summed up simply: money makes it work.  Lack of money makes it not work.  We want SMF to work.

But we also want it to be free.  So it will be.

Depending on the license, you might be able to. Although, the kind/curtious thing to do would be to ask the phpBB team.

They probably won't care... After all... They let me use their smilies, but that was mainly because I put a thing in the copyright tag about where I got them...

Oh, I wouldn't dare remove the copyright tag. (okay, I did at first but I put it back....)

Yeah, both copyright tags is the solution.

Well I just signed up as a Chartered member and look forward to getting going with the latest release.  Yabbse has worked very well for me and I look forward to this change.

I do hope the steps are laid as easy as suggested.  As I do not want to screw up my existing forums.

Many thanks for the previous....

cheers !

PLEASE UNDERSTAND THAT THIS LICENSE IS NOT ONLY NOT FINAL, BUT ALSO ONLY THE LICENSE GIVEN TO CHARTER MEMBERS FOR THE BETA!!!  THERE ARE CLAUSES IN IT THAT DO NOT APPLY TO THE STANDARD RELEASE!!!!!!

IT MAY CHANGE SIGNIFICANTLY BEFORE RELEASE.

You have been warned.

I thought so... which is why I didn't post a link to the license :)

I've got a question(don't get mad  ;)): Why isn't YabbSE(as of version 1.5.1) and SMF not available under the GNU GPL(as version 1.1.0, and possibly other versions were)?

Legal problems.  Some people, for example SCO, don't understand the GPL - they think it gives you *ownership* or something.  The license we use is similar, but more expicit on some points.  For all intents and purposes, it doesn't affect most users....

Derek

Doesn't the GPL require that all derived works also be licensed under the GPL?
