I got this error message while upgrading:
QuoteConverting the template...

The rest was successful. But the forum is not working, there is an error message stating "cannot load "errors" template".

I just have uploaded the Themes folder and have overwritten the previous folder. Maybe I deleted too many files. How should I proceed?

Ben_S

If you download the upgrade download from the downloads page and upload the themes folder, does that help?

Sounds like you are currently missing the errors template.

Then please try "rudegnu/public_html/lgsa-forum".

Same thing -- computer thinks about it for half a minute and then just presents the same screen.

I note that the uploaded file  smf_1-0-2_update.tar.gz  is owned by nobody and has permissions set to 666. Coould this be the problem, I wonder -- would it not need to have execute permission?

Does this tool help at all?

It would only think for a moment if it can't connect to the FTP server, though... if you're using localhost, can you try using whatever you use for your FTP?

Sounds like some of/much of the Themes folder wasn't properly uploaded.

I have used the "upgrade" instead of the "update" and now everything works fine.

Daniel Lundie

Hi, I used the update file and my forum totally disappeared, leaving only a blank white page. So I tried the install package instead, and that didn't work, then I tried the Upgrade file, and now when I go to ugrade.php I get this message:

QuoteNotice: Undefined variable: db_server in /home/futurius/public_html/futuri_plex/upgrade.php on line 59

Notice: Undefined variable: db_user in /home/futurius/public_html/futuri_plex/upgrade.php on line 59

Warning: mysql_error(): supplied argument is not a valid MySQL-Link resource in /home/futurius/public_html/futuri_plex/upgrade.php on line 59

And the forum url itself gives this:

Connection Problems
Sorry, SMF was unable to connect to the database. This may be caused by the server being busy. Please try again later.

I've tried re-uploading the full files from a previous back-up version (smf 1.00, I think) but it doesn't work at all.

Does anyone know what I'm doing wrong? I'm using Dreamweaver to upload the files. Any suggestions would be appreciated... :'(

[Unknown]

Looks like something happened to the Settings.php file.  Check Settings_bak.php or a backup of your own...

-[Unknown]

Daniel Lundie

I put Setting_Bak and Settings.php on the server and it returned to giving me a blank white screen again, as well as redirecting me to install.php. So I deleted install.php and now when I go to upgrade.php I get:

QuoteWarning: mysql_connect(): Access denied for user: 'root@localhost' (Using password: NO) in /home/futurius/public_html/futuri_plex/upgrade.php on line 59

Warning: mysql_error(): supplied argument is not a valid MySQL-Link resource in /home/futurius/public_html/futuri_plex/upgrade.php on line 59

while the forum index.php page gives me this:

QuoteConnection Problems
Sorry, SMF was unable to connect to the database. This may be caused by the server being busy. Please try again later.

Any idea what it could be?

The forum is at http://futurius.net/futuri_plex/index.php if that helps...

Hello,

I will admit that for once I haven't read the whole thread... sorry, still just 2 questions:

Can we update/ upgrade from 1.0 (templates still RC 2) and how? (Our pckage manager is NOT working) Or do we have to go via 1.0.1?

Thx in advance.

Not gonna try the tool -- not running PHP in safe mode.
Tried connecting to the IP address instead of locahost (through Port 8888) -- made no never mind.
Which log would tell me, I wonder, if the file smf_1-0-2_update.tar.gz being owned by nobody is causing the trouble?

What is repair_settings.php?

Yes, both upgrade and update should be fine.

What I'm saying is this tool also fixes the "owned by nobody" issue, although that shouldn't be the problem in this case.  While it's mainly designed for those using safe mode, it doesn't hurt you if you're not.

Alright, well, can you telnet to port 8888?  Go to Start -> Run -> type cmd, and then in the black box that appears enter:

telnet ipaddress 8888

If it works, you should get a blank screen.  After that, press and hold Ctrl, and then press ]... then type "quit" and hit enter.  You can then close the window, if you'd please.

It may be that the FTP server isn't accepting connections from its own server, in which case it may be better to use the update/upgrade instead, or make the changes manually.

I gave that a shot and it didn't seem to change anything.

I then tried repair_paths/php and that didn't do anything either.

My forum still isn't showing up. :(

My hosting company just upgraded to php 4.3.10. Will that effect SMF in any way. I see that phpbb.com [nofollow] came out with 2.0.12 to fix some issues with phpbb and php 4.3.10.

Jerry

SMF should work fine with 4.3.10 :)

One Question....

If i upgrade my SMF 1.0 RC2 to 1.0.2 i will lose my Portuguese Language pack files in server???? I need to put the language pack again???

Trekkie101

Yeah you will probably need a new language pack

Redeye

Firstly, love SMF!
Secondly, you guys have done a great job - and for free!

But for a non-techie like me it's starting to get a bit high maintenance. It seems that everytime there is even a small change which requires an update/upgrade I have to delve into my custom template and manually make changes, which is dangerous for my skill levels, and mods stop working or can't be downloaded until the mod devs have updated them.

Is it necessary that whole files need to be overwritten? Or could there be a way of just modding the parts that need changing?
