I have a program called "Artisteer" which is a generator for (drupal, joomla, html, dotnetnuke) but i was wondering if smf was ever going to publish a program to make themeing easier? I know of the theme generator from smf-hacks.com but i don't think that supports 2.0 ?

See it here: www.artisteer.com

We have already published a program to make theming easier. It is called "SMF 2.0". Enjoy.

where i can see it?

Arantor

Antechinus is referring to the fact that SMF 2.0 (the forum you are using right here right now) is easier to theme than previous versions.

Wow... That was rude, you might want to check your attitude. Donation thought just canceled.

Unfortunately 2.0 does not display the graphics and you have to hunt through miles of CSS to find what you want.

His question was valid and I had the same but it is obvious SMF's web site is not the place to ask a valid question without receiving a condescending and curt answer.

Here is an example of a theme builder for an older version of SMF. ( would post a link but SMF does not trust people to contribute from the outside.

I wrote a CMS that had a similar feature as that theme builder and what is really nice about it, is that you can see what you are editing with a nice little menu driven editor without going through the most poorly commented css I have ever seen.

Thx for the typo, I have fixed it in our svn version.

quarktoo, there is no theme generator for 2.0 and one of the main changes to 2.0 was to use a lot more css to give more flexibility to themers so no, it wasn't a rude answer. Compared to 1.1.x you can do a lot more with 2.0 without hacking templates. This is a good thing. Someone is talking about making a theme generator but whether it will get off the ground or not I don't know.

Anyone who is serious about theming will need to learn to deal with css anyway. Even if you use something like the theme control panel in vBulletin admin you still need to know how to use css and it is still complex to use if you want to have much in the way of flexibility. I have used vBulletin for theming and it is not noticeably easier than doing things directly in the css in SMF, in my opinion.

The restriction on posting links is an anti-spam measure for new accounts and doesn't last long. The reason we "don't trust" new accounts is because we have had a massive number of spammers over the last six months or so and stopping them posting links helps reduce the numbers of spam posts we have to deal with.

There is this great little tool called Firebug that helps you find out just what CSS is affecting an element and what file and line the rule is at. DebugBar might do the same thing on IE, but I haven't used it enough to know for sure. I believe Chrome also has a similar tool.

The bonus to all the CSS is that you don't have to fuss with editing template files, which has been a big complaint in the past.

New users have their links disabled to stop link spamming problems we have experienced. After enough posts, one can post unadulterated links.

I made theme creator viewer on smfhacks.com  and most likely will update it once SMF 2.0 goes final. The theme creator is just really there to give some insight and make some simple style changes.

Sorry for the drama...lol

I guess i want to know how i can take an image from photoshop and make it an smf theme? Or is this not possible?

Arantor

Not directly, you need to carve the image up into smaller images and mess with the CSS and possibly the HTML/PHP to make it fit.

If there would be an easy to use Theme maker or template generator for SMF 2.0 RC2
I would immediately buy this software.

I hope somebody will do something simular to
artisteer.com
for SMF.

Many thanks in advance.
Regards, Stefan.

Wow , artisteer is awesome ..thanks for the link. It will be great if we have something like that for the basic SMF 2.0 curve theme. in my other post i had asked a similar question that are there any color packs for the curve.

hartiberlin

Hi All,
I had an idea today, cause I need to design a few new small
sites.
I really would like to use SMF/PortaMX for it in the Single Pages
Mode.

But then the graphical theme  and template Layout is a bit complicated.

So as there are many great free CSS Templates out there.
how about a converter software that
takes a free CSS templates e.g. from:
http://www.freecsstemplates.com/templates.html

and translates this to Single pages in PortaMX
so it looks simular to the Layout structure as in e.g.
http://avacabtaxis.com/Forum/index.php

so it has the menu and just single pages,
but also keeps all the graphics from the free CSS template.

This would be really great, if we could have something like this.
so we could just take free CSS templates and use them on a
SMF/PortaMX system and thus no need for a complicated CMS system...

Many thanks.

Regards, Stefan.

PortaMX feature/extension requests would be better posted on the PortaMX support website. :)
