Since upgrading to Rc4 i have a small issue, when i go into my ACP and then a few minutes later return to the forums all my members disappear from the online list, im not sure if its a bug or conflict with something else, it does not happen all the time but more than not and its not always all my members it can just be two out of three and yes the members are still online!

Don't forget, if they aren't actually doing anything, they drop off the list after fifteen minutes.

Even if they ARE logged-in.

Nope it cant be that, i have changed it to 30 mins and it only happens when i go to ACP and back i can still talk to them through shoutbox when this happens ???

Im having the same trouble .... they dont show up in the online list but they are in the simple portal chat just talking away or playing games in the arcade area...... Glad im not the only one having this problem, just be glad when someone could figure it out ......

It sounds like it might be due to specific mod packages not keeping users' "online" status updated when they are using features the mod adds (not features provided by SMF itself). Have you checked with the relevant mod authors to see if they're aware of any such issues?

MC73

I have , and nothing reported so far .... i have also deleted every mod i had and it still does the same thing, even in smf default theme .... the members that i see are sometimes different from what others see ( at the same time ). I didnt have this problem with the rc3 version that i upgraded from. I noticed my problem right after i upgraded and from what i read, it isnt that easily to downgrade back to rc3 as novice as i am.

Yes sounds exactly like the problems i have, and i have also had it all running default with no mods but no change ???

MC73

I guess me and you are the only ones having this problem .... i noticed this problem because i have a small forum and the same people are on at the same time , day after day ... i guess with a large forum, you couldnt tell unless you remember every one of your large members online .... I still got the problem .... i still got a backup of my old rc3 DB, I Might as well downgrade to it, since it was working flawlessly.

Seems that way MC73, i will stick with what i got it might sort its self out eventually also I'm waiting for my theme being updated then i will know if its anything to do with that.

MC73

I have tried the core, curve, and 3 different themes from different makers and they all are the same, members just don't show up sometimes  ..... i also reloaded rc4 ( another fresh download )to default ( with zero mods/ packages ) and it still did not fix the problem on my forum. Besides from this one glitch, everything is great .... Just cant tell who is online because sometimes they dont show up in the list.

My mates running his forum on my server since yestarday and we are experiencing exactly the same problems on there aswell, that also is a clean install of RC4 with zero mods installed  ???

Norv

Are there errors in your forum's error log? Specially on the clean installations, where it seems to be happening.

About users appearing to be doing different things in the same time: well, it is possible to seem that way when they change what they were doing, one could catch the moment before the change, another can see after they started doing something else.
To-do lists are for deferral. The more things you write down the later they're done... until you have 100s of lists of things you don't do.

Zero Errors , My Log is clean ..... Everything is perfect throughout the whole forum but the users sometimes not showing up .....

Now i do have Simple portal shout just on the main forum page, that is how i found out my problem ... the members were chatting in shout, but they come and go in the users online section....

Not sure if this is a SP bug or a SMF bug due to that i have to see them chat and see the Who's online at the same time to confirm if the problem is fixed or not.

Trax ... Do you have a portal on your site? ... how about your buddy's site also ?

I have to reiterate, the Simple Portal shoutbox and/or arcade might not keep the person's "online" status updated. I don't know whether that's truly the case or not, but it's a definite possibility.
As for a clean forum having people disappear from the online list while they're actively browsing around the forum, yeah, that's definitely strange.

Is it only happening in a certain circumstance? You mentioned earlier that it happened when you entered and then left the admin control panel. Have you had it happen under other circumstances? If not, do you remember anything in particular that you were doing in the admin control panel in each instance?

Yes on my forum i can browse the site and all seems fine, but when i go to the ACP and back then they disappear randomly it is not everyone that disappears neither it can just be two out three although my mates forum seems to do it more frequently even just browsing the forums that too has simple portal installed.

Brettflan

You mentioned it happening on a clean forum with no mods. To be clear, was Simple Portal actually installed on that forum, or was it truly a clean forum without Simple Portal or any other mods installed?

The Domain Shop

No it did not have simple portal on it, but its hard to tell if its happening so we have now put it on. But like i say its hard to tell if its happening without Sp installed has users are coming and going anyway.

MC73

I uninstalled SP and installed Dream Portal just to see if it is a portal problem that is messing it up since we are using Simple portal .... Will let yall know if installing a different portal solves the problem or not ... It is worth a try

Right been over to simple portal and this is the answer i got

QuoteSeems to be more-so a problem with how your forum handles the session cache than a problem with SP.

Any ideas?

I have Dream Portal installed and go in and out of the admin CP every day and don't experience this problem.

Do guests also vanish?
