The latest version won't even install on RC3- at least not from the Packages feature in Admin.
That sucks...I really wanted this mod.
:'(

I am using it fine on RC3.  If you go to the Mod Author's website, I downloaded 1.0.8 b3 package there and installed it on RC3.  There was only one error from Subs.php, that I needed to do manually, but that was because of another Mod that I used which changed the code it was looking for in the package.

Also, I double checked and I emulated RC2 in order to allow the install on RC3.

You say you manually edited the Subs.php file?  I am getting the same error... I had to upgrade my whole forum from 2.0 RC1 to 2.0 RC3  I was running this mod successfully under 2.0. RC1 but on the upgrade I can't reinstall.

Can you help please?  Because now I'm upgraded I'd rather like to use it!

Thanks!

I found the bit to manually edit subs.php:

Quote'show' => allowedTo('pm_send'),
               ),
            ),
         ),

add after...

//Begin SMFQuiz
         'SMFQuiz' => array(
            'title' => $txt['SMFQuiz'],
            'href' => $scripturl . '?action=SMFQuiz',
            'show' => allowedTo('quiz_view'),
            'sub_buttons' => array(
            ),
         ),
         //End SMFQuiz

But when I try to save it, I get this error:

QuoteRequest object error 'ASP 0104 : 80004005'

Operation not Allowed

/include/system.asp, line 226

Can you tell me what that means?  And what do you mean by 'emulate'?  How do you do that...

Thanks!

EDIT:  Not to worry, I have solved this now by trial and error - less error and more taking a deep breath and modifying file outside of server  :)  I now have it up and running.

I am amused. :)   I downloaded 1.07 yesterday for use on an RC4 board...   I got 2 errors in files because of minor differences in code, but that's par for the course...     unfortunately, the database script for 1.07 was completely screwy and I was ready to give up (and make a note to the customization team to have a word... lol)

then I come back today and find the new version...
Installed with no problems. Database edits were performed correctly, file edits all went smoothly, even with about 15 other mods installed.
The interface looks nice.

Issues:
New Quiz Page, New Categories Page, New Questions Page
-- No submit button... so no way to add Quizzes, Categories or Questions
-- the Image URL filed is a dropdown with no value and no way to type in a URL for an image.

New Question Page
-- If I select Multiple Choice, there is no way for me to define the choices.

Quiz Importer Page
-- I get an error when I go to this page -- Unable to open /MYSITE/Themes/default/images/quiz_images/Quizes/

Gripes:
-- I'd like to see tooltips describing the fields and what they do (use the standard SMF help [?] feature for fields)
i.e. what is "state" in the league setup? What does "Show answers" checkbox actually mean?
-- This is an involved mod. In addition to the tooltip help, I'd like to see an actual help section. Linking to the FAQ videos for the package readme is cute, but does not help when my staff does not have access to the package manager, but still have to admin the quiz section.

I hope "amused" is a good thing ;)

Yes, 1.0.7 was never intended for RC4 it only worked on RC1 and the install script I had based on another mod, probably not the best way to do things. So, the latest version uses a more standard installation, I am glad it appeared to go smoothly.

Going back to your issues, I am surprised with some of them:

No submit button - I really don't understand this. I and a number of people have the quiz installed and this isn't an issue. If you don't mind I would appreciate it if you could describe this in more detail for me.

Image Url - This is a file upload and the dropdown will take an image from the folder where files are uploaded. If there are no images there it won't have anything in it. Are you saying the upload isn't available for you?

Multiple Choice - Again, not a problem on my installation and many others. I am guessing there is an issue somewhere, it would help to see this somewhere if possible?

Quiz Importer - Does that folder exist? It should be created when the mod is installed. If not, did you not get an error related to this on install anywhere?

Finally, did you install the category post installation mod (available from http://www.smfmodding.com) as this provides a set number of default categories and their images post install. This is highly recommended but obviously doesn't address what you mention above.

Thanks for the input and I hope to be able to resolve the issues for you. And yes, I know there are a number of improvements that could be made :)

Nope, no errors on installation with 1.08. I was quite pleased (and yes, amused is a good thing) with the installation.

No upload function that I can see.
(no, I did not install the category mod)

Interestingly, from FF4, at home, I get more info
the same error as the importer page... that the directory can't be opened.
When I use the file manager from Cpanel, It looks like there is no diretory... BUT I can't create it either
Sorry the file or folder: Quizes already exists in /SITE/Themes/default/images/quiz_images
Using that, I looked....   when the mod created, it did not create empty folders for Quizes and Questions... it created two 0 byte files...

I deleted the 0 byte files, created the directories...  and *LO* the missing stuff appeared! Including the save and upload....
it looks like the system error in the upload function not finding the directory kills the rest of the page. from the dropdown (the error gets displayed IN the dropdown box)

Yes, it does rely on the folder existing, I should probably handle that more gracefully. So are things now working as expected? Not sure why it created files rather than folders for you though?

Kindred

it's a known problem on some servers with SMF mods, the system creates a 0 byte file instead of an empty folder...
it's very odd and I have no explanation as to why.

I have not added any quizzes yet (just confirmed that it looks like I can!) but it SEEMS to be working correctly now. :)

so, from what I have seen so far (now that issues are dealt with)
My suggestions are: (and note: these are suggestions, not demands. :P )

Yes, I put some tooltips in the settings section but not on all sections as I thought they were self explanatory. If I get time I will consider putting them elsewhere.

Not entirely sure I understand the second part of this paragraph but agree there could be a designated help section.

Yep, good point.

re: the help section - well, on my forum, we have a large staff. I have given the staff access to admin the quizzes.
However, the only place where the "help/demo videos" are displayed in in the mod's readme which is only displayed in the package manager.  None of the staff have access to the package manager to see the videos. :)

re:tooltips - yeah...   I've done the exact same thing...    "Those fields are self-explanatory, aren't they?" and then I get some idiot (like me, LOL!) who comes and says, "huh? I'm not sure what the field actually means"
The problem with working with something you developed is that you developed it! :)  you *KNOW* what everything is supposed to be doing.   It took me years of tech writing to figure out that every detail should be documented because you'll always find someone who doesn't get that one detail which you didn't document.  O:)

All very good points. Thing is a week ago was the first time I looked at this mod again after over a year due to work time constraints. I hadn't had as many people upload their own quizzes to the site as I had hoped (with the exception of a couple of people) and felt like I was doing all the work, therefore didn't feel as enthused as I originally felt after putting in about 1/2 years worth of effort into it. I had a few guys ask me to get it working with RC4 and finally had a few hours to spare and thought I would help them out. I am not sure how much time I will have going forward to make more changes, but I might try and find a few hours here and there depending on how many people take an interest in the mod.

Thanks again

Kindred

well, once I get it set up, I'll share stuff :)  Although our quizzes might be rather "niche". :D

I do appreciate the work you had to put into this... as I said, it is a hugely involved mod and I certainly hope that people take an interest in supporting it further. :)

off-topic: Are you open to mod commissions? I want to do an involved mod (recipe book), but don't have the time myself.

I found a problem on installation but I'm pretty sure I know a fix.

Those problem relates to a previous problem by Kindred.

My theme directory is named themes not Themes

on install, it's looking for the /Themes directory, which of course will not be found.

Ok here is the problem
modification.xml (line 679):
<file name="$themes_dir/default/languages/Help.english.php">
Should be:
<file name="$themedir/languages/Help.english.php">

Line 636:
<file name="$themes_dir/default/languages/ManageScheduledTasks.english.php">
Should be:
<file name="$themedir/languages/ManageScheduledTasks.english.php">

Line 649:
<file name="$themes_dir/default/languages/Modifications.english.php">
Should be:
<file name="$themedir/languages/Modifications.english.php">

I've done a fix in the modification.xml file myself, the entire package with the fixes is attached.

I'm also have a problem with no submit button or anything when I want to add a quiz. A screenshot of that is also attached.

EDIT: Found a fix for me. I just created a directory under the root folder named Themes and apparently it fixed itself.

Kindred

actually, with a standard SMF install, the directory SHOULD be "Themes" (with the capital T)

I like my directories lowercased :P besides in most mods $themedir is used, right?

Bugo

$languagedir is better ($themedir/languages instead).

Dear Admin,

I have been watching your mod for years, today when i noticed the mod is updated. Instantly i tried downloading and installed in my forum.

Installation went smooth, all video and details in the site were perfectly matched.

As proposed, with in few minutes, i have got around 25 quizes imported through the social platform you have designed within 1 category. Includes more than 250 questions and 1000 answers.

My forum is ready for the quiz now with 22,000 users. Thanks for the excellent work.

I have been using some third party quiz application, i will remove it by this week after uploading all our questions and quizes to this excellent mod.

Sure we will be interested to donate or help for your development of this excellent social quiz mod.  8)
