[4635] Forum Profile Updating Error

When you go (as an admin or moderator with permissions) to update a users forum profile, the first 'change profile' works as expected.  The error is that after the update you are returned to the forum profile screen (as expected) but certain fields are "reset" instead of loaded with the users information, which means if you did a second 'change profile' from that screen you would inadvertently change data.

Items that I noticed that were "reset" included any custom uploaded avatar, this field is reset to choose an avatar / no picture.  Also blanked out are custom profile fields with selection lists.   If you back out to the profile summary the data is still there and then go back to change forum profile the data is reloaded.  So it appears that after you do a change profile from the forum profile screen the returned screen is not reloaded with all of the currently saved data.

Hi Spuds,

What version of SMF are you using, and do you have any modifications installed?

I cannot reproduce this error, either on this forum, my own 2.0 RC3 or the latest SVN build.

Custom uploaded avatars doesn't not reset, the option to upload a new avatar button is their, however it clearly shows my present avatar.

Nor for custom profile fields. I made 2 test fields, however after updating them with new information, and turned to the modify forum profile page, the information is still their.

I'm close to moving this to the 2.0 support boards, since i believe this is for support, and not a bug within SMF itself, but can i get one last piece of information for my testing purposes.

What kind of custom profile field is the one in question, or all in question. My two where not shown on topic view, one with BBC/HTML enabled and one without, and active.

I can confirm this error for RC4.

Changing an user profile as an admin will reset the user picture.

I digged a little deeper and found out something:

If you change the profile of an user as an admin, the first radiobutton (chose picture from galery) is preselected after return.

This looks like the picture is gone, but it isn't. But if you save again, without touching the radiobutton, it will be gone.

Same procedure as an user (or as an admin, but within his own profile): The 3. radiobutton is selected and the picture is visible.

I can not recreate this issue.

I edit users' profiles fairly frequently on both this forum and several others - and I have never had an issue with the image or any of the custom fields resetting. So, I believe that this must be due to one of the mods that you have installed (default avatar seems like a likely suspect)

also, RC3 is replaced by RC4. We are not looking at bugs in RC3 any more.

I can confirm this on my fresh SMF2 RC4 install. Simply changing something on a user that has an uploaded avatar removes the users avatar. However, it doesn't remove the avatar from the settings, just the page. A refresh of the page shows the avatar is still there. So the data appears to not be loaded again when saved, but is actually not changed. Just like Spuds reported.

But if you save again before refreshing the page (for example change something else), the image is lost, because the field is empty.

I've noticed this but it only appears to have started recently.

All I've done to the forum which is different is to create a Board which I've called Blog based off the permissions of Reply Only and switched on the Post Moderation facility so Guests can also post on it but must wait for their posts to be approved.

The disappearing avatars happen only when I as admin adjust or modify a member's profile so the workaround is to save that member's av to local drive, make the account adjustments, then re-upload the avatar.

WebMinister

There seems to be no need for a workaround if you don't save two times in a row.

Ich you save your changes, leave the profile and open it again, the avatar is still there.

It is only "moved out of sight" after saving and saving oncwe more will really remove it.
