Hello
(sorry if you don't consider this as a bug, but IMHO it is)

A user doesn't want to receive mails by others, so he unchecked this setting in his member profile.

The who's online continue to show up the icon for this member, and the mail address when hover with mouse in tooltip.

Privacy issue, the "who's online" should/must respect the user choice.

Or I missed something somewhere ?

Thank you

Arantor

Are you talking about like the MSN icon that contains an email address?

There's no way around that. If the user wants to give out their MSN details, it ONLY comes as an email address. So if you don't want to give your email out, don't give out your MSN.

I don't give out my MSN here for just that reason. Nor my AIM or Y! accounts.

Yes, that's correct.

Ok, but this user, just registered with an MSN mail address, I mean I didn't activated any other fields for mail address, and I've tested his profile with a dummy account, I can't see his mail on his profile.
But I can on the who's online.

This is not logic for me, because the user request in his profile to not receive any email from others, and if the who's online reveal it, it's not fair.
In that case the who's online should show all the mails of any members despite of the profile setting...I think.

You can't get around it without hiding the MSN icon then.

MSN by definition requires an email address, and if you put the MSN details there it implies you want to share them, which means sharing your email address.

Sirius OCTeam

ok so...

I could agree 100% with you, if I've checked the box there (attached) but nothing checked.

Anyway thank you for your answers, I will try to hide it  :)

Sorry for the delay on this.
Odd, (IMHO it is a bug too), but it seems you were using a custom theme. It may be good to know if the same happens on the default theme.
To-do lists are for deferral. The more things you write down the later they're done... until you have 100s of lists of things you don't do.

So sorry for this very big reply delay.
But I don't receive any mail notification from my topics suscriptions....
So it's not easy...need to fav all my posts lol

Ok so I will test with default theme to be sure, but my actual theme is only image tuning, no code change at all.

Thanks

Kindred

also, it would help if we could see this possible bug in action.   Please provide a screen shot of the actual screen on which the user's information is appearing....

Oya

it's really quite straightforward

if a user has elected to not share their email address (allow users to email me option), but has entered their msn address, their email is shown and the op thinks that's a bug because it's sharing an email address when the user has asked not to

but as pointed out msn contacts are only in the form of email addresses

Kindred

Oya,

That is how you have interpreted the OP's problem. I see some possible other interpretations; hence my request for a picture, because his language description seems to be vague (to me).

In SMF 2.0 if in profile fields the standard fields are disabled the the field is hidden and is not visible to anybody. So it seems this is fixed.

Take a peek at what I'm doing! ;D
