Is there some type of built-in way to delete everyone's old PMs to conserve DB space? Or do people do this by manually deleting the PM entries in the database using phpMyAdmin or something?

It seems like there should be a way to stop member's PMs from getting out of control.

Personally, I would get pretty upset if someone deleted my pms without my permission.  I would ask your users to do some cleanup work on their boxes if it is a concern.  I never delete pms.

Ya but if your forum is big, and the users are no longer active.. why use up all of that wasted database space?

^SITS^

If they ain't active and haven't been for awhile, dump their account.  I am fairly sure there is a way to do what you want but I don't know if you would get any support to do it since it involves personal messages.  Rightfully so, they make privacy a pretty big concern here.

It makes no sense anyone would be against it especially with all of the automated spam bots that could be filling up your database.

Also, who in the world would expect PMs to be private from Admins on ANY forum? It's ridiculous to ever assume such a thing. Not that I want to read the PMs.. just delete them.

^SITS^

That is true, but you won't find anyone here that will tell you how to read them.  To find those members you want to get rid of will put you in a position to read them and I don't think you will find the support to do that, but I could be wrong.
