With the current SMF search the url generated is somewhat like this

http://www.yoursite.com/index.php?action=search2

This doesn't help at all if you want to share your search result with someone else.

Some time ago "Brettflan" helped me out to achieve something by which the search data was shown in url. You can read the discussion here.

Also it'd be nice to integrate something like Search Focus Dropdown mod in the core product as it gives a lot of option to search for.

Second feature is definitely required, I had done this my way few months back and it is actually very useful.

For first one, as never felt need for it so can't say how much it can help but looks promising.

I was just wondering the same a few days ago. I'd consider this an open question. Would it be useful for people - as useful as default in the package?
To-do lists are for deferral. The more things you write down the later they're done... until you have 100s of lists of things you don't do.

As the search box is now does it only search the entire forum when on the index page and searches with in the topic when viewing a topic, search with in a board when viewing a board?

looks like it, but how about you do a test and see for sure?

From what I recall from my past test that is how it worked and is one reason I decided to use the search drop down mod is because it shows people if they are going to search the entire forum, board or topic.

Yes. Right now, unless you happen to know exactly how the quick search box works, you wouldn't know if your search were being limited to a specific board or even a specific topic.

Alternately, having a default search text indicating the domain of the search (topic, board, forum) that goes away when it gets focus would be another option that would take less horizontal space.

Another way to enhance search features would probably be extending search functionality to mods. Mods such as gallery, blogs, wikis or anything that may have content to search for because it is sort of annoying having separate search boxes for each mod.

It can probably be set up through a hook system. The user will select what areas they would like to search, if they pick a mod area then the mods search hook will be called. The mods search hook will have to return the search information in a standardized format with the relevance strength included with each found item. After that the SMF search system will take over and sort all the results on this strength.

Maybe that isn't the best method thinking of it, maybe someone will come up with a better method. Basically in the end it would be nice to have one search for mods and forum.

I like that idea. I'll always go for the least cluttered option, myself.
