New Posts Issue

What a way to get my first post here. I must say I've searched this topic and where I've gotten close to an answer its just not the exact problem I'm experiencing. Also I'm almost 100% sure the solution is so simple and I've just overlooked it.

The problem is that if you click on a topic that has a new post inside you will always be taken to the top of the page within that topic. Whether you clicked on the orange "new" block or if you clicked on the direct link from the board index (under the "last post" section). Also if you make a new post you will be redirected to the topic in which you just posted... only the top of that page.

Now, I know this is a direct cause of the Theme change I've just done because if I go back to the previous theme then all is well and working as it should.

When you click on the new post links they all contain the #new tag in the url so its not exactly the same problem people were having when their email clients were removing the #new.

I have had several complaints about the issue already so I know its not just me.

What is it you are asking help with exactly?

More info needed .... for example ... What theme are you having trouble with? Have you asked the question in their theme area ? Might ask the question there.

To lazy to make it a real quote... lol

There is a setting in SMF that allows you to do this.
Admin>Configuration>Themes and Layout>Theme name>Guests and new registration>Return to topics after posting by default>untick that>save/apply

I am pretty sure that is the location of it. That will redirect you to the boards main page I believe.

As far as the other issue, it might be best to contact the theme's author about it like MC73 suggested.

Sorry guys, this issue is not yet resolved. I posted the query with the custom theme's creator and he could not replicate the issue and recommended I post back here.

More details:

Forum Version - SMF 2.0.2
Installed Packages - Aeva Media 1.4w and Anti Bot: Are You Human/Bot? 3.0
Custom Theme - Bloomingred

The problem I'd like to resolve is that when you go "unread posts since last visit" and you click the orange NEW icon you are directed to the correct page but always the top of the page and not the first unread post. I have tested this here on the SMF site and if I click the NEW icon it directs me to the correct unread post.

Also if you click the icon on the far right (the last post icon) it will take you to the last page but will once again take you to the top of the page and not the last page. When you click the button the url ends in topicseen#msg56651 but it doesn't take you to that msg #.

Similarly if you reply in a thread (even though the return to topic option is ticked) you return to the topic yes, but once again the top of the page.

If I change the site over to the default CURVE theme or the previous custom theme I had then the site operates correctly when you click the NEW icon you are taken to the new post and when you click the last post icon you are taken to the last post and the after a new reply you are redirected to the new reply you just made.

Now, what controls the New and Unread posts? Is it the Post.template.php or perhaps Recent.template.php which are in the default theme?

If I compare the files between the working theme and the new 'not working' theme I can't find any obvious differences.

Everything on this theme works flawlessly except this problem

Can we get a link to your forum please?

I'm sorry for the delayed response about this. Are you still having this issue? If so, do you get this issue when using the default theme?

Hey, thanks for the reply.

To answer your question, no, I don't have the same issue on the default theme, only the custom theme.

Hi NxR-Yelo, as this issue isn't occurring with the default theme its clearly an issue with the custom theme your using. This falls back on the creator of the theme, unless you have other mods installed that are affecting this functionality also. I would recommend to enable the custom theme and uninstall each mod you have installed one by one to see if any of them are causing the issue. Let us know how you get on.
