4.2 Vbulletin to latest SMF,

Passwords do not seem to be converting. I tried the fixes listed in the earlier posts. Anybody have a fix?

Everything else converted perfectly.

Konferge

Anyone know if it's possible to do the conversion when the vBulletin forum and SMF forum are run with 2 different hosting companies?  I assumed I could just copy the vbulletin database to the SMF database server, but the converter is looking for the install path, and I'm not sure why it would need that.  Thanks in advance for any help.

Sorry, the database connection information used in the specified installation of SMF cannot access the installation of vBulletin 4.0. This may either mean that the installation doesn't exist, or that the Database account used does not have permissions to access it.
...........................................

uh.... wtf? how do you give the database permission to access it?

edit: now i get this

This converter was unable to find SMF in the path you specified.

Please double check the path, and that it is already installed there.

I was able to get the database to convert (finally) and all my users and posts / polls etc. worked except for the passwords

Is there an UPDATED set of instructions for vBulletin 4.2.0 (Patch 2) to SMF 2.0.4?

EDIT: Nevermind... I now have this working as per Jed11 helpful files!

I AM Having Issues As Well When I Run The Converter.
vBulletin 4.0 To SMF The Latest Version

The Converter I AM Using Is The Latest One.

When I Enter ALL THE CORRECT Info I Get :

Converting...
Successful.
Recalculating forum statistics...
Internal Server Error

The server encountered an internal error or misconfiguration and was unable to complete your request.

Please contact the server administrator, [email protected] and inform them of the time the error occurred, and anything you might have done that may have caused the error.

More information about this error may be available in the server error log.

When I Download The Converter I Have 2 Files :

vbulletin_to_smf.sql
convert.php

I Place The convert.php In My SMF Root Then Run The Install.

Am I Missing Something?

Funny that both of you have the same email address to contact.

Are you on the same host?
Is a win or linux server?

An internal server error in my mind is usually connected to a file permissions issue (i.e. wrong setting for file permissions) or some htaccess screwing up something.
Check that all the SMF files have the proper permissions: http://wiki.simplemachines.org/smf/Installing#Set_File_and_Folder_Permissions

If you have any htaccess remove it and try again.

How many posts do you have on your forum?
How many users?

Take a peek at what I'm doing! ;D

Can someone please tell me which are the best 2 files to download to convert from vBulletin to SMF, there's so many posts in this thread giving updated or altered files it's very confusing. Are these 2 files to replace those given in the vBulletin converter in the Downloads section, I assume for vb4 it's the last one with no version specified?

And also any edits to files required.

vbull v4.1.3 to latest SMF

I think it would be great if someone posted the latest 2 working files for download along with step by step instructions, and if then it's found edits are required the original post is edited so when people download they know they're getting the latest working files.

I'm hesitant to try the converter because I'm not that spectacular at sorting things out when they go wrong. Although I'm not a complete idiot. I guess an average Admin like most on here.

Failing all that, is there a senior poster (expert) on here that would do the dirty deed for me and convert my vBulletin v4.1.3 into the latest SMF?

The reason I want to convert is I have 2 forums, one SMF which never gets any spammers and is easy to update. The other is a vBulletin and gets hundreds of spammers a day despite having AKISMET key, Spam-o-Matic, Q&A on registration and God knows what security installed, oh and an htaccess file blocking complete countries.

I've got none of that hassle wih the SMF forum and it plods away secure and happy ever since it was installed back in 2008.

I went to the download section for converters and dont see a download for vb 4.x   Im using 4.2.1   I only have 3000 posts and 130 members but I would like to import the data to my SMF 2.0.7. Where would I download the converter from and do instructions come with it?

Any help would be greatly appreciated

Thanks, Jared

I never really tried VB converter but, based on previous posts, the files here should work:

I did convert a big VB 4.something some time ago.

The good with converters is that you can always try, no problems, as it will keep your original setup untouched ;)

Yes, all members in SMF's database will be removed, as will posts, topics, boards, etc...
