Me too, Colin.  It has been such a beautiful peaceful day with a clean error log!!  We were getting a huge number of hits.. like up to 20 per day.  I kept banning and banning but they still came back and were on the error list.  Now, they're finally gone!!  Hope Google doesn't mind!! ;D

Mick.

I redirect my banned spammers to Disney world site lol

That's a neat idea too!  It's too bad they're not "people", I know they are bots based on my error log. They try to log in every day around the same time and try a bunch of times.  They can't do that now.  It really didn't do anything but fill up my error log but I like a clean house.  I'm so happy they are GONE!

Maybe I should find some really disgusting where I could direct them just in case some happen to be real people.

It's interesting that since I added the "reason for joining" mod, they all type in 6 random characters.  That alone tells me they are not people because they type exactly 6 each time.  What I don't know is how they get past the questions that I ask... just 3 but they must have the right answers.   Maybe they are people to start with, then once they're in, they send bots?  I don't know much about that stuff but I am certainly a happy camper now that they're gone!!

I only use 1 question. The question should be related to your forum genre that actual guests would know the answer to. Really, no need to have all 3. Make it easy for potential new members, not you. ;)

Depends on the question. Bots can solve math questions, and have been shown to look up the answers on Google. On top of that, there is a distributed list where the question and answers are solved initially by a human then shared with all the other copies of the bot, if that makes sense...

That's why is recommended to change such 1 question once in a while if spam registration is detected.

My questions are simple..

1.  What color is blue?
2.  What is the current year?
3.  What is 25+10?

I made it as easy as I could. We have some members who even have trouble with these!   :)

Arantor

1. will be answered by most bots without too much trouble.
2. will be answered by a decent percentage of bots.
3. can be answered by almost any bot.

Absolutely not.

You have math, colors there. Bots now-a-days know how to answer all 3 questions. I suggest a question related to your forum.

ex.  chevyavalancheclub.com is about trucks right? The secusrity question is, how many spark plugs the chevy avalanche has? Answer is 8.

MaryLouW

Hmmmmm... that might be pretty hard to come up with a good one since we are a diversified graphic group.  Will give it some thought.  If a person is a rank beginner, they would have problem answering a question relating to the software.

Hello!

I have 2.0.4 version, sorry if this has been answered before but could this mod work in it?

thank you in advance :)

and sorry for another dumb question but, does it redirect even if the person doesnt attempt to login?
I always appreciate the help, thank you!

I love the look of this mod. Will it ever be updated for 2.0.15?

Have you tried it?

How can I install a mod that doesn't work in my SMF version?

petewadey

Yes. Today. Even tried with version emulator. If it should have worked, maybe I'll try downloading again

br360

Make sure that when you emulate that you choose SMF version 2.0.

petewadey

That's exactly what I did. Now I know it should work, I will keep trying.
Thanks
