Error found while checking this document as XHTML 1.0 Transitional!

okay, what does this mean and how do i fix it? i am relatively new to using the forums and have had a tech guy help me, but he seems to have disappeared...this error is popping up for my members, though the site seems to work just fine for me.... I have more than 1 person reporting it...

Link to your website? That page shouldn't popup unless a member deliberately tries to validate the theme's xhtml via a link. (Like one you might find in a footer..)

Firstly, please do not go and make two topics about the same thing.

Secondly, please note that posting in Bug Reports generally asks for far more information than you provided, and we try to limit that to *actual* confirmed bugs, rather than support issues which this almost certainly is.

SMF validates to XHTML 1.0 Transitional out of the box, this means the language used to create the page should conform to the official published standards and rules of the specific branch of HTML used.

The URL you have is not a standard SMF one, error/706/encrypted is not a URL SMF is capable of generating on its own, which means either you have some strange mods installed or something else going on.

What are you doing when you get that error message?

Arantor, sorry, I realized I posted in Bugs, and thought I removed the post to post in Support where the post belongs. Sorry for the confusion on that, I tried to correct my mistake, as, you are right, this is a support issue, not a bug.

I myself have not encountered this error, but I have members who have. "this is what i got when i tried to go into the "x" board part of the site then it bumps me over to the forum section and puts this up" <-- this is what a member told me, and that was the screenshot she gave me. As I stated, the site seems to be working just fine for me, I have not seen this error myself. Not html smart, so thought I would check here for help...

Firstly, don't put SMF in a frame. It doesn't like it. It may be indirectly related to your problem, though it *shouldn't* be.

Secondly, don't interchange between using www. and not using www. in your links because that definitely WILL screw it up with an iframe. Pick one, make sure everything uses it (and redirects if not)

Thanks for the info...We hired a guy to help us build the site, to make sure all the coding and settings and such were done right........We needed a blog as a landing page, and forums for members to communicate in......so went with wordpress and smf. As for the links, I will remember that :) So......for the problem, with the 706 error, basically, there is no way that should happen?

Arantor

There is physically no code in SMF that will generate that URL.

Kindred

and, if the only thing you are using wordpress for is "landing page(s)", then get rid of it. You can do that within SMF by using one of the portal mods.

Please do not PM, IM or Email me with support questions.  You will get better and faster responses in the support boards.  Thank you.

we use the "landing page" for our blogging, if i can do that with a portal mod, i would like to, seems it would be much simpler keeping it all as one rather than split up...

Is there a section here on the forums where i might be able to hire with pay someone to help me with the coding end of things on our website?
