How to activate email notification by default?

By default,  Profile Settings -> Profile -> Notify me of new replies  is unchecked. I want this to be checked by default. How do I do this in SMF 2.0.6?

There's a reason for it not being on, by default, I believe. If you have a lot of members/posts, all those notifications could put you at odds with your host, for the number of mails being sent.

I could be wrong, though. :)

If users want to see what's been posted in topics they've replied to, there's the "Show new replies to your posts" link that should show on your forum (assuming your theme didn't strip it out).

They can "subscribe" to the thread though the "Notify" button at the top and bottom of every Message Index as well.

Even though I have no host to answer to (unmanaged dedi ftw), I know I'd spam the hell out of myself and every member's email if I had this set to default. No one would be happy for that amount of mail without consent.

For high-traffic boards that's true. But there aren't so many messages yet on my board and I want members to be more active. And most aren't very tech-savvy either and don't know how to activate email notifications.

kat

Unless there's a database query, to do this (Which I doubt), the only way to do this, that I can think of, is to send your members messages, asking them to turn notifications on.

Again, I'll be happy for someone to prove me wrong, with that.

Admin -> Themes and Layout -> Member Options Turn notification on when you post or reply to a topic.

borish

You mean Admin -> Configuration -> Theme & Layout? There are no member options there.

Arantor

Third tab over from the left is 'Member Options' in English. I don't know what it is in German...

borish

The third tab from the left is "Optionen zurückstellen" (reset options). In the row above, the 5th tab from the left is Members with sub-items Administer Members, Administer Member Groups,  Permissions, Registration-Management, Ban Members.

Illori

reset options was the name of the tab in 1.1.* it got renamed to member options in 2.0

margarett

Yes but that was English. The German translators might have kept the old name... (too lazy to check :P )

So borish, it would be better for you to switch your forums to English language, at least when you need to access something recommended here (because we will be discussing it in English)

Arantor

*shrug* It's still the third option from the left on the screenshot posted. Similar base functionality is in 1.1.x under 'Reset Options' but it's cleaner and marginally easier to use in 2.0 which is why it got renamed.

borish

Alright, I've found member options. The translation to German is wrong.
