Is that not the purpose for using the fresh files in this case?

The blue SMF folder [currently on my server as 'SMF2'] hasn't been flagged nor has any other SMF forumsI know on godaddy and nor have other SMF forums hosted on my server .... Only something with this current red 'SMF' folder ...

Arantor

Well, presumably you had clean files to start with, yes? Something between how they started and what they are now caused GoDaddy to flag them. Why wouldn't they reflag them next time, especially if you install the same mods, etc.?

Rayvon

Then that's an issue i'll deal with down the road and, if i can get this base forum up, can get back to again while i figure out what mod may have caused the problem ............. if a mod really did ..... but there's no logical sense to believe it will .. the behaviour doesn't match up ..

Arantor

Except the solution down the road will be a rerun of what has just transpired, making the whole endeavour futile.

Rayvon

Have you nothing better to do than troll a support forum?

Please do not PM, IM or Email me with support questions.  You will get better and faster responses in the support boards.  Thank you.

I'm not trolling. I'm pointing out the likely scenario that will occur based on what has already occurred.

No, that's not helpful, Kindred. That's just masochistic stupidity on my part. Gluttony for punishment.

Rayvon

If it continues to happen again, that's a godaddy issue that will ultimately be resolved when I get off their server. Getting the files in the folder back to working condition in the moment is an SMF issue - and one that I can rinse and repeat till getting off the godaddy server if this possibly-just-a-band-aid solution works. Mods are childsplay to install, and easy rule out as each change is made where/when one might be causing the problem.

Sometimes you have the patience of a saint ... sometimes ... like now ... ;)
DO NOT pm me for support!

Arantor

And all the while I'm debugging a mod for 2.0 that's built out of code I wrote for 2.1 (which has the same bug but would be solved differently), for a feature I personally never ever needed in the first place. Glutton for punishment indeed.

I still haven't been able to resolve this anchor issue, so I've opted to reinstall/rebuild my forum over the existing database instead.

I need to do this with as little disruption and as quickly as possible; I think I have my attack plan worked out .. I just hope to have a fresh mind pick it so I can be sure it will give me exactly what I want in the end-game ..

Before starting anything, I have done a complete backup via FTP and have also done database backups through my ACP ... Of course ;)

---

* I have created a folder on my server called 'smf2' next to my live forum in the 'smf' folder.

* In 'smf2' I have copied in the contents of Full Install of the 2.0.8 package
** I copied over the individual package files I wanted into the 'smf2\packages' folder; as well as my two custom themes into the 'smf2\themes' folder and smileys into 'smf2\smileys'

* I have come here and started typing this post  8)

Now from here, what I think I am to do:

* Rename 'smf' to anything else and then rename 'smf2' to 'smf' - then run the install.php and input the database settings as I read them out of the old settings.php file
** I hope this means my posts/users will remain intact

** I have a question at this point, will those packages I copied into the packages folder display and offer me the install option. Or will I need to go through the long route of re-finding them from the Simple Machines Third-party Mod Site on the 'Download Packages' tab in Package Manager?

* The smiley's and themes I can figure out, and just completely reinstall/re-create/configure if need-be.

No.
No.
No.

Just read the FAQ on how to upload a clean set of forum files.

Used the settings.php settings as I read them out of the old file with a new folder renamed to 'SMF' ....

And to answer my question, I did get the install option copying the packages folder over.

Smileys, themes all in place. Mods are mostly re-installed. So far no problems, nothing flagged as malware in them.

Note to Devs - those that care:
To GoDaddy's credit, I did notice after switching over to CuteFTP (as opposed to FileZilla, WSFTP, Dreamweaver FTP or even GoDaddy's own file manager/FTP I've used in testing over the past few weeks while working through all this) that the log file actually pops up with a malware detected notice on certain files, all from within both 2.0.8 packages directly off the downloads site here - and mostly all the same files getting flagged.

(uploaded the extracted files, of course)

Since I can guarantee that there is no malware in the files downloaded from here, there is either a problem in your computer that is inserting malware, or your program is buggy as he'll.

Rayvon

I'd blame godaddy as well, but you're welcome to keep the hostilities on me and "my" buggy program Kindred .. Though I can't possibly figure out which program of mine you'recalling buggy to create these upload issues with the code you develop ..

Aaannnyyywwayyssss - I just wanted to share now that the headaches clear and my problem's resolved ... Those very same files downloaded directly from this site to my work computer (where i am right now) ..  Didn't touch my computer at all and still flagged/deleted .. GoDaddy's malware software doesn't like something in the 2.0.8 coding ... I don't know what to tell ya .. GoDaddy won't say anything further than "it's malware and we can't do anything" even when I try to point out SMF is one of their three offered forum softwares ...

Arantor

* ‽ wonders how long it will be before the new files get flagged as malware and we go back on the merry-go-round again.
