In your admin under forum go to boards
click modify on the board you want to edit

here you will find
Permission Profile: change it from default to whatever one you want
you can add/edit profiles in your admin under members go to permissions and then go to edit profiles

back under the modify boards you will also find
Allowed Groups:
check which groups are able to access the board

lolexzz

i have "Allowed Groups" on but like a news board i dont want anyonee to start a topic there beside thee staffs

read only would prevent the staff from posting. you need to create a permissions profile and assign it to the board.

I would assume that the admin would be exempt

i tested on my forum and I could still create posts with the board set to read only....

but yes it would be better to make a copy of the profile so you can edit it to how you like, since you can not the standard profiles that came with smf (other than the default one)

yes the admin can still create topics, but the OP said staff has to be able to as well.

read only would apply to them as well.

thanks for thee help i will test it !

New permission profile, then for that permission profile goes set like Read Only and there do edits for desired membergroups so its easiest to change just a few things. Always use testing account, manipulate with its post count and see if system works as you expected or you need to add/remove something.
