Im an admin on a forum, and their is another admin who I think is changing settings I've set on the board... is their some way I can limit what he can do without him knowing that I've done it. ?

Gary

The only way would be to create a new member group that looks like an admin visually with different permissions.

You shouldn't be giving out admin rights if you can't trust them not to abuse it.

no need to hide it from them, maybe a good idea to restructure anyways :)

I have what I call manager, they have some admin permissions but not all....this way they can't go messing too much in the settings

set you up a new group and move everyone else currently an admin into it (this way you're not singling out the one person)

I don't own the site, a friend does (so he's the big boss/admin). not sure why the new person was made admin and I never asked. trying to not rock the boat too much I guess. good idea shadav I may try that....

Did anyone mess with the post count groups to the point there is no post count group that some people might fall into?

not sure honestly I've never messed with this stuff much so it's sort of new to me.  looks like we have: admin, moderator, global moderator, then a post count group called "member" which all members seem to be in.

this sounds good I just have to figure out how to do it. little confusing. if I made a new group, add all admins to it, and restrict permissions, would I also be restricting my own permissions on the forum? honestly I've never made a group before.

MacGig

so how do I make this group to limit what other admins can do? and make it look like im not singling them out?

lots of options here not sure what to do. thanks. :)

If your not the forum owner what does the owner say?

Alos create the group based on unique permissions, then go into permissions and change what it shoould have access to.

The best way to do it:
1. Rename Administrator to Project Manager or similar - remember this membergroup have all possible permissions.
2. Create a new Protected membergroup with name Administrator or Admin or similar but it will be with limited permission, read carefully about all permissions.
3. Newly created membergroup should not have next permissions:
- Administrate forum and database
- Manage permissions
- Manage and assign membergroups - this can be used if there is no reason to hide boards from that individual/s
- Manage boards and categories - this can be used if there is no reason to hide boards from that individual/s
4. If there are more membergroups which can be given from admin to user, you can just set that individual as membergroup moderator, if more membergroups, set him be moderator of more membergroups, but that can be seen from Moderate button on menu bar.
5. When doing promotion on yourself, my best idea for your situation is to go with a new membergroup for testing, give full administrator to that membergroup for testing - when doing that the best way is to go to profile, use main Administrator membergroup as Additional membergroup on testing account, so others won't see that testing account is actually Administrator and then do the same on your primary account, give to yourself as Primary membergroup newly created membergroup with limited permission and as Additional membergroup should go administrator with full permissions, so you keep full permissions. Remember this can be only done through Profile page

Note1 - protected membergroup is hidden on the list if member have permission Manage and assign membergroups, which means all protected membergroups can be given only from administrator or from membergroup moderator.
Note2 - if you want to do it completely on your own, all this will depend on forum owner and his knowledge, if he is newbie he maybe won't know what's going on, but if he know to read what others are doing around, then it will be easy for him to find out what you are doing. Also depends on the knowledge of that guy which you want to limit as administrator, he can tell to forum owner that something is wrong with his permissions and that can lead to problems. The best way to hide your actions is to make more complex system, more membergroups, more ranks..
Note3 - make more post based membergroups, membergroup ranks like VIP, Donator, some free membergroups to join, bring some confusion, but test all with test account.

This is your problem at the moment. Sort that out first. Please. Communicate with your friend.
You overriding their decisions and creating further membergroups to elevate yourself over other admins is not the way to solve the root issue.

Only those who are supposed to be allowed to rename forums, create new forums, etc, should be in the admin group. Typically all other staff would be in the Global Moderators group.

You need to sort out who is meant to be allowed to change the structure of the forum, change settings, etc and move any other staff to the Global Moderators group
