My forum crashed this week. It's been running great for 9 years and it died this week.  I was getting an http error 500.
I was running 2.0.2 (Really old).
So this morning I downloaded the 2.0.18 upgrade and began the process.
The problem is that it's stuck at Database Changes.  It was stuck at backing up the DB but since I backed it up via MyPhpAdmin I already have it.
Now it's stuck at Database Changes "Executing: "Changing column names." (1 of 43)"
All my directory permissions are set to 755.
All my file permissions are set to 644.
PHP version = 7.4.21
mySQL version= How do I find that?

I'm not sure where to go next.

2.0.2 definitely cannot run on 7.4, so that may be part of the original issue.  Looks like your host upgraded you.

You do not need to run the upgrader to go from 2.0.2 to 2.0.18.  You can simply overwrite the source with the new source.  Process outlined here:
https://wiki.simplemachines.org/smf/How_to_upload_a_fresh_set_of_files

You will lose any themes or mods installed.  But assuming the only issue is the php version, you should at least be back up & running.
Address the process rather than the outcome.  Then, the outcome becomes more likely.   - Fripp

make sure to download any updates to your mods, might as well make sure they are up to date as well

keep in mind however, while smf 2.0.18 does work with php 7.4, not all mods do, so you may have to use php 7.2 or 7.3 depending on the mods you install.
