the timing of 2.1 stable, restoring db

yes, i know, it's the question developers generally dislike, but i'm not asking because i'm antsy - for me it's a timing issue

i'm moving my install to another server

what i'd like to do is a fresh install on the new server when 2.1 is production ready, then do the CSS, then restore all the content/posts - the idea is to minimize down time

whether i'd do a fresh install of 2.0 or 2.1 however depends on when the production version is expected to be released - i'd rather not do an upgrade if i can avoid it

is there a reasonable expectation that the next version will be another RC, or stable, and approx. when would that that be (as in more or less than a month let's say)?

i know i could install 2.0 and upgrade when 2.1 stable is released, but i installed 2.0 on the current server with Softalicious and i now see that's not recommended

last question is whether i'd be able to do a clean 2.1 install, then configure all settings, then import the forum content from a 2.0 db, or must the db be imported/converted when doing the install?

if you install SMF 2.0 and you want to use SMF 2.1 at some point you will be REQUIRED to run the upgrade script to make 2.1 work.

You can still run the upgrade like normal even if it's installed through Softaculous. At some point you may be able to upgrade directly through Softaculous as well but I have no idea how they do major version changes.

When it's ready.
