I can't figure out how to set a forum's permissions to do what I want

For one board, I want regular users to NOT be able to post, but I want some other user group to be able to post.  Is SMF able to do that, and if so how?  I can't figure out how to get SMF to do that.  Each forum can have a unique permission set, but that set applies to ALL user groups.  It seems that SMF cannot do what I want to do.  Am I correct about that or am I confused?


Also, there's a bug -- if I make a new custom permission set (to be able to apply that set to forums), SMF won't let me edit that set:
In ACP under Members-->Permissions-->Edit Profiles, it shows the list of board profiles (also called permission "sets").  When I click on a custom profile/set that I created, it won't let me edit the permissions because it loads the wrong page.  Instead of loading a page that would let me edit the permissions, it loads the "General Permissions" page (the same page that loads when you click on "General Permissions"), which is the page that shows the list of groups & allows you to edit each group's permissions.

Basically, you are doing something wrong,  because smf definitely allows what you have described.  I have done that exact setup before....

So, either you have a mod that broke something,  or you're not actually following tge correct steps

Member group permission (global) are different from individual board orofile permissions. And in boar profile sets,  you can define the permissions for that board, for every grouo

You are confused, somehow - What you wish to do, is fairly basic stuff and certainly possible.
I am also unaware of any bugs with ACP functions regarding permissions handling.

OP here -- Okay, thanks for the info.  Yeah, maybe I'm confused LOL.  I'm going to look at it again.  I'll probably post back here after I look at it some more.

But there's still that bug... I'll post that to a different board though.

That bug is another mistake by you. I can't replicate it by using the correct instructions from the FAQ

this seems to work fine for me, the header of the permissions that show give you the name of the profile you are editing permissions on.
