I unselected the "View attachments" permission for Guests, but there is no text in those posts notifying the guest that there is an attachment there, and that it is downloadable only by logged in members. Am I missing something?

that is expected. you would need a mod for what you want.

No, this has always been the case,

By default, SMF never shows a user any action which they could not complete -- so, if guests can not view attachments, there has never been any indication that there IS an attachment to see...

Check it!

you do what I do but you don't provide a download link. And in the case of images I don't know if you want them to be visible or not, if you want them to be visible don't filter the images and give them a download link.

Thanks, I used the Diego Andrés instructions and I did not have the desired restust, ie some indication that there is an attachment there which can be downloaded by logged in members.

The Post and PM Inline Attachments add two permissions that can be used to prevent guests from downloading attachments (they can see a thumbnail/link but receive a message informing them they need to login view/download the attachment).
You cannot view this attachment.

You can see it working for image/PDF attachments in the following message: https://ulti-owners.info/forum/index.php?topic=14.msg213#msg213
