Using the SMF login system to restrict pages.

I've just installed SMF, and plan on using it as the forum for a website that I admin. Basically, what I want to do is use the SMF username/password system across the website. I know about using the various functions of SSI.php, and they're certainly very useful, but one thing I haven't seen yet is how to restrict certain pages on the website depending on whether the user is logged in or not. For example, there's a calendar of events which I need to make viewable only to logged in users, and give all others a "Please log in to view this page" type of message.

The site is hand-coded, mostly just HTML/CSS with simple php includes. I didn't have the foresight to use a CMS, and now the site is already operational and too late for the moment to switch. Right now, I see only one option, and that is to use Tiny Portal to essential re-build those pages which I need restricted, rather than integrating the login system into the site. Needless to say, this looks like a very tedious and wasteful solution

I've searched the SMF forums and knowledge base to the best of my ability, but as far as I know something like this hasn't been addressed. I think something like this definitely falls under intergration/extension, rather than a normal use of the forum software, so here I am.

I was wondering if anyone more knowledgeable than I could provide some insight, or even ideally a solution. Any help at all is appreciated.

Thanks
