hello sir.
well i think u should look at the top mods and place that possible option in default smf.
like u should put restriction of 10 posts then user may enter in forum.
u should put add managemenr by default.
I think u should add most of the mod by default.
because it is a headache to put mod, then theme editing.
i mean it is not easy for most the users like me to modify.
sorry for my bad english.
Regards

I AGREE!!!! A dummy like me would like to be able to use these mods with other themes, but I do have over 70 mods running

We do actually at times add many of the top mods to newer releases.  I can't give any specific details or commit to which mods may have been built in, but there are some 1.1 mods that will be in 2.0 by default.

Theres a few reasons we don't just add mods to smf by default.  There are more than i will list here, but the major contenders are

1.) Code cleanliness/security.  Some mods code is horrendous and maybe even insecure.  SMF strives to keep its code clean and efficient, and security is a major focus.

2.) Adding each and every mod/feature possible will bloat the package.  Do you want to suffer the resource use consequences for features you don't even use?

As already previously said, smf 2.0 will attempt to make changes on all themes for mods automatically.  Depending on the theme, however, it may still require manual installation, due to code differences.

I, as in me personally, not necessarily the team, believes it is better to offer a core system that has the core functionalities that would be desired of a forum package.  For things above and beyond that, a mod package can be used to expand that functionality.

Its about flexibility, let the people install what they want.

I'll use the ad management mod as an example.  SMF itself is a forum package, its main purpose is to handle discussion in forums.  Not a crack on those who've done so...  because many things that these members have done, frankly, is awesome... but... smf is a forum software. Its not a blog, an ad manager, a toaster, its not a website/portal, its not a cms, its not an all in one solution.  It is very useful to build around though, but again, not everyone looking at a forum software wants those options, and thus, they stay a mod package, because it allows a user of the software to determine what functionalities they want to install... its about flexibility.

That is just my personal opinions on the matter.  Others may feel differently
