Hi there,

When trying to reply to a thread as a guest, I get the message

" The following error or errors occurred while posting this message:
The letters you typed don't match the letters that were shown in the picture. "

The problem is there is no picture or place to enter any letters! Am I missing something?

It would be helpful,if you can give your forum url

Hi there,

Sorry for delayed response, my forum url is http://www.craignish.net/forum [nofollow]

If you care to view the actual site you can see why it's a particular problem for me, I have tried my best to integrate a few boards into the site as different services, particluarly the calendar, and I'd like people to be able to just click the 'post now' links from within the site and, well, post! But the above causes problems as when you try and post, you are confronted with the error and then have to register/log in and start again.

It's a bit frustrating.

Any help very very appreciated

Thanks

Mr_Cat

Does the image happen to show up in the default theme?

Yes!!!

They do :) You're a genius, sorry I guess I should have tested that, does this mean I just have to stay with the classic theme for the time being then?

I suppose I could look up some different ones for 2 beta 4, but I did like the classic Yabb theme, it suited the rest of my site the best.

Any further tips welcome if you can think of any!

Cheers

well, no.  I was actually just checking to see if it might be an issue with the theme itself or something global.  It appears to be localized to that theme.

are you by chance using an older version of that theme?  Have you done custom work on it?

The only customisation I have made to the theme is to put my own logo in, but I didn't even change any code directly, just did that through the admin options on the forum.

I updated my forum software a while ago from the latest public release, 1.6 I think, to 2 beta 4, and I gathered that the themes got updated too. As it's one of the three themes that come as standard with the forum package I guessed it would be ok. It all seems to look and function fine apart from that one tiny (tho in my case flawed) glitch.

Hmm yes upon checking in the theme settings of my forum it says "Classic YaBB theme (2.0 Beta 4)".
I guess it's up to date!

I suppose not many forum admins feel they need guest posts from people who don't wish to register perhaps, but for me it's really quite crucial.

Alright, i just tested with a clean default version of all 3 themes and it did indeed work

Do you have any mods installed.  If not, would you have an issue with replacing the theme with a completely new clean version from the 2.0 Beta 4 download package?

No mods installed.

It's a fresh clean upgrade from the last public verion, I wouldn't midn doing a clean install if I could keep all my boards and posts so far if it's handy for you!

Does that count as a clean install? I could re-do the lot, I have a bunch of SSI on my site serving a few functions pointing to different boards but it'd be a 2 second job to change.

Bring it on.

I'm actually not mnding the original theme now but I'm more than happy to test stuff out.

You can actually just replace the files with files from the large upgrade package.  Its fairly straightforward.  Just don't let Settings.php get overwritten and you'll be good -- the large upgrade package doesn't have a Settings.php ;).

1.) Download Large Upgrade Packages from the downloads page
2.) Extract it on your computer
3.) Delete all files beginning with upgrade_  -- should be 3 files in 1.1 or 5-6 files in 2.0
4.) Upload the remainder of files over top of your current files
5.) Sit back and sip a good drink while they upload.

As long as Settings.php is left alone your forum will remain connected to the same database -- Settings.php contains the information to link SMF to the database.
