Do converters alter SMF's database?

My Clan/Guild has converted from phpNuke to Joomla/SMF and I used the converter located on this website.

I just wanted to know if during the convert, does it make any changes to the SMF database to use data from phpnuke?
I am now having a lot of problems restoring my SMF forums on another host. (for example, all posts are mixed up and some posts do not even show up any longer.)

The converter will overwrite all existing data in your SMF tables. It won't change the phpNuke data - it just copies the data, modifies it as needed and inserts the modified version into the SMF tables.

So I technically shouldn't have any problems if I made a fresh install of SMF on a new server, backed up my database on the old server, and imported it into the new installation of SMF?

I have tried a SMF backup but when I try to restore it, it gives me a Duplicate entry error

Use restore_backup.php or search google for bigdump to restore the backup.

I have actually used bigdump, and for some reason the posts on my forums are all mixed up. which is why I was wondering if during the conversion it changed anything.

Im really bummed out and worried to change anything on my live forum in fear that if it messes up, I wont have a way to restore it.

I will give the restore_backup.php a try and get back to ya. Thanks.
