I downloaded a zip file for a script that i was going to run for my server and I unzipped it in my public_html. Instead of the file unzipping and making its own folder, all the files poured out right into my public_html and replaced my index.php with its own.. now my forum is broken I tried copying the index.php with the one thats at /home/mysite/ but it didnt work either

Im not sure what to do I also downloaded SMF again and uploaded the index.php from there but it didnt work either

someone please help me out Im freaking out  :'(

I also have a backup but its a .sql.gz file I dont have the slightest clue how to use that

Turns out putting the new index.php worked but my mods are GONE completely...
Im so upset right now, those mods were crucial to my site, Is there anyway I can recover that file using the backup I have?

Sorry for double post -.-

I managed to solve the problem on my own by using my brain, Im surprised too.

I noticed that my mods still showed up in my package manager, and Simpleportal was really the only thing missing, I just freaked out without thinking and automatically assumed they were all gone too but I just manually installed the index.php parse back into it and everything is working now.

thank god... apologies for the useless post! Im going to be a lot more careful for now on.
