Adding SMF Chat button to amdmagenta01 Theme

I need to add a chat button on the main message board. I am using the amdmagenta01 theme.  I have the following php files to use, but not sure which one to change or what to input. 

BoardIndex.template.php
Calendar.template.php
index.php
index.template.php
MessageIndex.template.php
Post.template.php
Postold.template.php
style.css
theme_info.xml

I looked through some of the other messages and saw that I needed to modify a file that I don't have; that's why I am lost.  I hope someone can help me out!

If you just want to add another menu button. You will need to open index.template.php in the theme folder
And find function template_menu()

In that function you will see some other buttons
You can copy like the profile button then just change the button image and alt text.

When I tried using these, I got the chat button to show up, but the link didn't take it to the chat.

Now I get this error on the forum page:

I got the button to work on the forum, now the weird question.  I have had one person tell me they can't see the button.  They have logged out, logged back in, cleared their cache and nothing.  They are running IE and AOLs Browser and there is no button there.  Anyone have any idea why?  I'm baffled.  I created a new account, to try it myself and it seemed to work just fine for me in IE (7), Netscape, Firefox and Opera.

I forgot to report that after a couple days, she changed her theme and went back to the Magenta theme and the chat button worked just fine.
