When installing new packages, I know you're supposed to back-up your system.  How do you do that? Does it have to be done from the server, or can it be done from the Admin panel? I'm running Dilber MC on 1.1RC2. Thank you,

Arbalot

you connect your host by ftp and copy your Themes/dilbermc folder in your computer.
if one of problem appear you reupload your files from your computer

choloman05

ohhhh, ok. I got it.  Thanks.  So by backing up the system, it's not talking about saving information like, member names, forum settings, etc.? Or will saving the Themes/Dilber MC files do all that ?

For a full backup, download the whole folder SMF is in. Also, make a database backup (through forum maintenance with 1.1, or phpMyAdmin with 1.0.x).

You can do it in forum Maintenance in 1.0.x as well.

Hm. I must have missed that option back then.

If you have cpanel on your host and are allowed to make database backups I would personally do it from there. Also if you are allowed to generate a home directory backup or a backup of your entire "www" folder, some hosts call it "htdocs" I would also do it this way that way your sure to get everything. The database backup will download to your desktop and the home directory backup will be copied to your root directory on your host, ftp in and download that that way. (Hope that was clear but thats the way I do a backup.)

choloman05

That was kinda clear, only cause I'm very new to all this. I'll try that though and ask my host.  Thanks
