Hm.. how about when something is attached with a post, a box containing some descriptive information such as file size?  Plus maybe an option in the upload area to include some text such as comments?

well... you can write the description in the message body, right? I don't think you just attach things to a message that have nothing to do with what you're saying... the file size can be seen in the file properties, or can't it? hmm... haven't tried *checks*... yup, it works

I have a mod in mind that'll let you place attachments inside the body message instead of at the bottom, so that may help with the description part...

The data is available (file size), I'm just not how to format it to look good.

attachment.gif [0.96 KB] (viewed 2 times)

if you really want to show more info on the images, you could also give the proportions in pixels... I feel it'd be good to be able to turn off the extra info in the settings area though

btw, when the attachment has only been viewed one time, it still uses plural

I must be going crazy.. I don't see the attachment filesize as seen above on my SMF board!  I've checked the attachment settings in Features and Settings, but I don't see an option to enable filesize viewing.  Ditto with Attachment Manager.

 * You can now see the height, width, and file size of attached files.

Ah.. you mean for SMF 1.0 Beta 5?  Lol this is what I'm currently only able to see on my boards.

Sucks.   :-\

I wrote that by hand, it's not a real attachment (~_^)

btw, [Unknown], that file in my previous reply has japanese characters but they weren't saved... here's the original name

「ザル猫」.jpg

this could be important for communities that use unicode

It would be done properly I think if you were using a Japanese character set.

Anguz

my browser is set to japanese auto-detect and my system's language is set to japanese too

the text in my last message shows right, but in the attachment it's 1230012470125232948312301.jpg, which is not a display problem, it was changed when the file was saved

or what do you mean by using a japanese character set? the board you mean?
Cristián Lávaque http://cristianlavaque.com

[Unknown]

Yes.  I've made a change so you can post Japanese, etc. text even with the wrong character set but subjects and filenames, etc... need the character set changed.

I think this should clarify what I sort of thought would be a neat lil feature of SMF.  Although it might not necessarily need to be so bulky though, just a thought.

[Unknown]

I don't think a huge box like that is neccessary, nor a description imho.  But more information is actually available now then is in that table.

And with the template system you could put it into a table if you wanted.

That huge phpbb box looks ugly as anything.

Yah I'm just nitpicking, nothing wrong with what's there now.  :P

I see, so the character set specified in the HTML head should be japanese for attachments with japanese characters to work right? like

<meta http-equiv="Content-Type" content="text/html; charset=ISO-2022-JP" />

If that's a Japanese character set (probably, I just don't know..) exactly.
