SMF Version: Version not known
When I try to run the installer.php, it says "Sorry, this installer requires PHP!"

codenaught

First of all, you mean install.php, right? As SMF does not contain a file called installer.php.

Does your host support php?

it says it supports phpmyadmin and PHP4, which is php isnt is?

redone

Looks like your host does not supprt PHP in some way.

Below is a link to the server requirements for SMF. I would ask your host if you are still having issues installing SMF.

ShadowStriker

Ok I did, but he asnwered: "Hello,
Our servers run the latest version of PHP 4.x, 4.4.2. I suggest you consult with the developer of the software to resolve the problem, as it is not on our end. As an alternative route, you can always install a free version of phpBB message board software using Fantastico in cPanel."

ShadowStriker

Is there anyways I could do a manual install?

redone

Well, phpBB requires PHP just like SMF. ;)

I am asssuming you are following the install instructions, have created a mysql database for SMF and generated the user with access rights to the database?

Have uploaded the latest copy of the SMF1.1rc2 install package here:

http://www.simplemachines.org/download/index.php?thanks;filename=smf_1-1-rc2_install.zip

Have uploaded everything after unzipping it and are running the install.php?

I'm sorry, I don't understand what you mean by that.

I just uploaded the zip to file manager in cpanel X, then I extracted the files from the zip in the file manager, and tried to run install.php

redone

I personally would not use the file manager for anything other than the odd file. If your host has Fantastico which is claimed in your last post then why not install SMF via Fantastico too?

ShadowStriker

because in fantastico the latest version is only v1.0.5

Kindred

so, install 1.0.5 via fantastico...

then (using FTP) upload the update version of  SMF that you plan to use (I suggest 1.1RC2) and run upgrade.php

read the manual...

I'm certain there is a help file and/or a readme and/or a manual that comes with smartFTP.
once you understand how ftp works and how to upload files via ftp, then you will know what questions to ask going forward.

You want to upload SMF 1.1 RC2 via SmartFTP correct?

I used to use it, but I dont anymore so please forgive me if things are a little inaccurate but it should be pretty close to it.

1. Well, log into your FTP by using the address/user/password fields up top.
2. Then to select which files you want to upload, go into the folder on your site you want to upload SMF to. (create them if needed, Right Click > New Folder (or something to that effect))
3. Right Click > Upload > Select Files > Browse for the files you wish to upload (you can select folders too)
4. SMF will now upload.
A Problem that I've had is that the upload cuts off several times before its complete, so keep a close eye on your log window
5. When the upload is complete, run install.php

I hope that helps.
